    As a Multifamily Legal – Associate General Counsel, you will operate with considerable latitude in consulting, advising, and representing Valiant Residential multifamily business in service of our mission.

    We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate General Counsel to join our legal team on a part-time basis, working approximately 20 hours per week.

    The Associate General Counsel will play a crucial role in providing legal guidance and support to various departments within the organization, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, mitigating legal risks, and supporting strategic initiatives.

    Your work will span a wide range of multifamily transactions and other high-impact legal matters and projects related to the multifamily business and/ or corporate law generally.

    You may advise on multifamily or corporate initiatives, risk policies, asset management, employment, or regulatory concerns to assess legal risks to the business and may act as a subject matter or technical expert on significant business or legal decisions.

    Requirements

    Manage external litigation, disputes, and indemnification matters, working with internal constituencies and outside counsel.
    Support corporate governance matters, including drafting corporate resolutions, maintaining corporate records, and ensuring compliance with corporate formalities.

    Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, finance, and human resources, to provide legal guidance and support on various projects and initiatives.

    Keep abreast of industry trends and best practices to provide proactive legal advice and support to the organization.
    Coordinate client reporting requests and respond to client inquiries on various topics.

    Serve as a key partner and legal subject matter expert to various operations teams, including payroll, residuals, labor relations, and workers' compensation.

    Provide operational implementation guidance, including input on legal and operational documents.
    Assist in the resolution of legal disputes and litigation matters, including collaborating with external counsel when necessary.

    Conduct legal research and stay abreast of developments in laws and regulations impacting the multifamily property management industry, providing guidance and recommendations to ensure compliance.

    Develop and maintain relationships with outside counsel in locations as necessary in connection with the handling of external litigation and related matters.

    Provide guidance and advice to internal leaders.
    Develop relationships with primary contacts at key clients and counterparties.
    Advise executive leadership and the legal department with respect to key developments in applicable laws and regulations.
    Engage with the company's enterprise risk program and seek ways to minimize or address key areas of exposure.
    Assist with record retention and data management practices with respect to sensitive information.
    Perform other duties as assigned to support the legal department, operational teams and the company.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Juris Doctorate Degree (required)
    Be an active member in good standing with the Texas Bar.
    Familiarity with purchase, sale, construction/development, finance, and leasing of commercial, mixed-use, or multifamily real estate
    5+ years of related experience
    Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and excellence in work product.

    Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

    Proven ability to work autonomously as a self-starter yet understands the necessity to advise management of work progress, issues, and/or roadblocks as they arise
    Experience providing coordination and oversight of outside counsel.
    Experience working independently in a fast-paced environment.
    Experience communicating with clients and building trusted advisor relationships.
