    Umpires will work under the direction of the Recreation Specialist and Head Umpire


    Umpire will:

    officiate games assigned by the Recreation Specialist; officiate games in the manner prescrived by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) and the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department; need to maintain game control and handle any rule violations; and maintain an appearance or demeanor that projects a positive, professional image.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Must be at least 18 years of age. Current ASA certification required. Previous work experience as an ASA umpire preferred but will provide additional training for those recently certified. Able to work evenings and weekends.

    Full mobility of both arms and legs to allow ability to work, run repeatedly, bend & stoop, lift and hold arms downward, outward and above head.

    Must wear an official ASA umpires uniform to all games.

    As of January 1, 2015, all umpires will be paid per hour, not game. If you work four games, you will make approximately $86.85.

    Figure is based on 4.5 hours worked; arrive 15 minutes prior to first game and stay 15 minutes after the last game.

    A temporary employee position is one created and intended to exist for less than one thousand four hundred fifty (1,450) hours in any calendar year.

    Temporary employees have no seniority, grievance, or appeal privileges. Temporary employees shall have no benefits except as required by law.

    A temporary employee position may be full-time, part-time, variable hour or seasonal.

    Part-Time employees do not qualify for sick, holiday, or vacation pay. Paychecks are issued bi-weekly.
