Who We Are: The Coconino County Attorney's Office is a public law office in Northern Arizona located in the heart of Flagstaff. We are a team of approximately 20 attorneys and 30 legal staff who are dedicated to the vigorous and fair prosecution of crime throughout Coconino County, protection of the rights of crime victims, and effective legal representation of the County and County special districts. The CCAO is one of largest law offices in Northern Arizona and sets the example at the State and National levels in vision and design for rural attorney offices.Our Mission: We preserve and protect the Community's sense of Justice and Fairness. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

PARALEGAL I: TYPICAL DUTIES: (Illustrative Only)Assist attorneys and clients with case preparation for court proceedingsResearch statutes, legal cases, and other sources for legal precedents and case applicabilityEnsures compliance with criminal and civil procedures in accordance with state and federal statuteMaintains statutorily required confidentiality of case mattersCompiles, annotates, and indexes provisions of statutes, cases, and administrative decisionsDrafts legal documentsPreparing and filing documents with courts both electronically and physicallyGathers, reviews and verifies case documentation Preparation of subpoenas, monitoring and updating the case management systemAssists and attends court hearings, depositions, and meetings with attorney as needed Manage document transcriptionReceipt and process emotionally traumatic and graphic materialRedaction of media and other materials for trial or disclosureDevelops and secures evidence and documentationAssists attorneys in preparation for depositions or trialsReviews investigative or court documents/media and extracts pertinent case information and prepares reports for attorneysCalendar's deadlines and hearing datesAssistance with the creation of trial documents Assistance with scheduling witness interviewsMakes travel arrangements for witnesses Arranges for proper waiting location for witnesses, greet, support, and update all witnesses needed for trialSet up equipment in court for trialOrganize and archive the documents related to completed and ongoing casesTrains, monitors, schedules, oversees, or directly supervises and reviews the work of subordinate clerical and office employeesMay run criminal history record checks and obtain felony conviction records for attorneysPerforms other duties as assigned PARALEGAL II: TYPICAL DUTIES: (Illustrative only)Performs the duties of Paralegal I Assists in the training of Paralegal I or other subordinate staffConducts research, investigates facts and assists in the development of legal argumentsDrafts complex legal documents such as contracts and pleadings. Proficient in database and systems usagePARALEGAL III: TYPICAL DUTIES: (Illustrative only)Performs the duties of Paralegal I and II Participates in witness and victim interviewsActs as a liaison between attorneys, courts, clients, witnesses, other agencies, and the publicTrains and monitors interns and temporary personnel in legal functionsActs as a case management and database subject matter expert, training others on system usage and best practicesProvides input and recommendations for revisions to procedure manualsAssists in the training of Paralegal I and II

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Considerable knowledge of: - Legal terminology and procedures- Practices and procedures of legal research- Rules of Court, Evidence, Discovery, Federal Privacy Act, Freedom of Information Act and other ordinances- Techniques of writing briefs, opinions, reports, and other established document forms- Business EnglishSkill in: - Use of computer systems, software programs and other office machines- Report preparationWorking knowledge of: - Interviewing and eliciting information in legal investigations- Researching statutes and records and summarizing pertinent findings- Preparation of documents for use in legal proceedingsAbility to: - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with attorneys, clients, co-workers and the public- Accurately maintain records and prepare reports- Communicate effectively verbally and in writingCoconino County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.AmeriCorps, Peace Corps and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
