- Provides acute care and daily health assessments for individuals.
- Participates in planning meetings and provides medical information as required.
- Develops accurate and timely medical documentation including annual summaries and patient assessments.
- Collaborates with the medical team for full compliance with regulations and assists in identifying trends and issues.
- Performs duties as needed during emergencies, disaster responses, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
- Understanding of general medicine procedures and individualized care planning.
- Familiarity with medical jurisprudence and relevant policies and procedures.

The state-operated living centers cater to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are fragile medically or have behavioral challenges. These centers offer on-site direct services and support at 13 locations across the state.

The Staff Physician at the State Supported Living Center (SSLC) undertakes advanced medical responsibilities, ensuring the delivery of top-notch, integrated medical services to individuals with intellectual disabilities under the care of HHSC State Supported Living Centers (SSLCs).
Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have complex medical, psychiatric, and/or behavioral health needs. The Staff Physician also develops healthcare plans with measurable goals and interventions and oversees their implementation.
As a valued member of the treatment team, the Staff Physician advocates for the medical needs of the individuals served, collaborates with families, APRNs, Physician Assistants, consultants, and community medical providers in various specialty areas. This role involves providing guidance to the treatment team in resolving intricate medical issues affecting the health and well-being of individuals.
