    Job Summary

    Works in conjunction with Music Department faculty and staff to create a range of student support, and marketing and promotions communications to inform students and promote active engagement in departmental activities.

    Projects may include the development and design of newsletters, informational announcements, Google Sites, web pages, email campaigns, flyers, and social media marketing campaigns.

    Other responsibilities may be assigned as part of working in the main office of the Music Department including general departmental assistance to students, staff and faculty.

    Candidates with strong attention to detail, reliability and professionalism are encouraged to apply. A strong interest in and coursework/basic experience with social media marketing and design is required. Intermediate general computer skills, and marketing, communications or publicity skills are a plus. Ability to follow directions and work independently on both short- and long-term projects is required.

    This role is open to all students and is an excellent opportunity for a marketing or design student who is interested in developing skills and a portfolio in communications, publicity, promotions, and/or publications design.

    • FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.

    Essential Functions

    The Communications Assistant will help develop and execute informational and promotions communications by creating clear, dynamic content with engaging visuals to support student engagement, increase awareness and promote advocacy for the music department's diverse programs.

    Develop and coordinate creative social media content across major social media platforms, assist with marketing needs of program directors, collaborate with coworkers to ensure promotions are informative and consistent, assist with marketing planning and goals, ability to multi-task and prioritize work, quick and efficient learner, excellent organization and management skills, strong communication, marketing, and design presentation skills.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Course work and/or experience in marketing, communications, social media, and/or public relations
    • Skilled in Digital technology including Google Suite/Google Sites; Adobe CreativeCloud, Canva or other design platforms
    • Regular use of the key Social Media Platforms
    • Excellent Oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and confidence in creative problem-solving
    • Professionalism and strong work ethic

    Desired Qualifications

    • Intermediate skills in design; skills in photography, video and media editing
    • Basic understanding of Generative AI for marketing and promotions

    • This is not a remote position. Position requires student to work in the Music Department Main office on a regular weekly schedule.
