- Thorough understanding of lawsuit summaries, litigation files, and proper maintenance of all legal records.
- Performs support duties for assigned attorneys as requested, such as answering telephones and attempting to resolve inquiries and issues during attorneys' absence, scheduling meetings and conferences, typing and editing documents, and handling incoming mail.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by General Counsel or Deputy General Counsels.
- Ability to work in fast paced environment with strong prioritization skills.
- Ability to manage complex workloads.
- Because of the nature of legal duties and the complexity of task, reliable attendance is essential.
- Ability to work independently and utilize critical thinking skill to complete duties.
- Directs and supervises the work of the paralegal team.
- Assists in hiring and training internal support staff for the legal department.
- Oversees the day-to-day workflow of the department.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science or closely related field AND two (2) years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant OR
- Paralegal Certificate and/or Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies AND four (4) years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant OR
- Equivalent combination of experience totaling six (6) years.
- Paralegal or Legal Assistant formal training or certification
- Supervisory experience
- Exhibited proficiency in navigating interpersonal dynamics.
- Extensive litigation experience as a paralegal or legal assistant
- Experience drafting and filing legal documents
- Medicaid or other healthcare experience
- Must be able to remain sitting for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to move or lift up to 15 pounds at various times.
- The office work environment includes regular exposure to general office equipment such as computer equipment, phones, and copy machines.
