Job Summary

The Assistant Director – Community Services supports the Regional Director in overseeing program operations, personnel management, and service delivery within the Community Services division. This leadership role assists in supervising Program Coordinators and Support Staff while ensuring high-quality, person-centered services across multiple program areas, including:

  • Day Program

  • Home Skills Development

  • Community Networking

  • Personal Assistance Services

  • Independent Supported Living

  • Shared Living

The Assistant Director plays a key role in maintaining regulatory compliance, strengthening community partnerships, supporting team development, and advancing the strategic goals of the organization.

Essential Job Functions

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Assist the Regional Director in implementing quality management processes.

  • Participate in recruitment, interviews, and onboarding processes.

  • Ensure all team members meet employment qualifications and required screenings.

  • Verify no disqualified individuals are hired and ensure proper reference checks are completed.

  • Ensure required staff trainings are completed and documented.

  • Support both short-term and long-term organizational strategic goals.

  • Represent the organization positively to clients, families, team members, and community partners.

  • Treat all individuals served and their families with dignity and respect.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Leadership Team.

Service Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to all organizational policies regarding employment and service delivery.

  • Maintain effective working relationships with external agencies including:

    • Department of Mental Health (DMH)

    • Department of Health and Senior Services

    • SB40 Boards

    • Case Management entities

  • Participate in on-call rotation according to regional schedule.

  • Assist with physical transfers or lifting when required by individual support needs.

Documentation Responsibilities

  • Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational standards.

  • Complete documentation and billing paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Maintain organized and accurate client records.

Professional & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively participate in supervisory sessions and required meetings.

  • Conduct and participate in team member evaluations according to operational guidelines.

  • Meet productivity requirements established for the position.

  • Perform self-evaluations and support performance evaluations of assigned team members.

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws and standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assist the Regional Director in supervising Program Coordinators and Support Staff.

  • Monitor the identification, development, and execution of strategic objectives.

  • Communicate organizational direction clearly and encourage team participation.

  • Champion change initiatives and manage implementation effectively.

  • Handle personnel matters with professionalism and discretion, consulting Human Resources when appropriate.

  • Reinforce a collaborative, team-centered culture across departments.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all business and Protected Health Information (PHI).

  • Provide leadership and guidance across all department services.

  • Ability to manage escalated or complex behavioral situations professionally.

Experience and Education Qualifications

  • Masters Degree required;

  • Relevant experience in the field of Developmental Disabilities may substitute year-for-year in lieu of a degree.

Employment Requirements

  • Successful completion of background checks (criminal, driving, abuse/neglect, fingerprinting).

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation and required annual training (including Relias).

  • Current driver's license, acceptable driving record, and active auto insurance.

  • Completion of required training per Associate Handbook guidelines.

Physical Requirements

ADA Consideration – Sedentary Work

  • Exert up to 10 pounds occasionally; negligible weight frequently.

  • Frequent typing and repetitive hand movements.

  • Primarily seated work with occasional standing or walking.

  • Must be physically able to perform CPR and First Aid.

  • May assist with physical transfers or lifting depending on client needs.
