    Senior Histology Specialist

    Immunohistochemistry

    Day Shift

    Assists in the overseeing of the Immunohistochemistry laboratory of the Histopathology Unit.

    Trains new technologists on proper procedures and techniques, workflow, evaluates new technology for clinical application and assists in updating procedure manuals for laboratory inspections and accreditations such as the Joint Commission.


    Functions as principal technical specialist for the immunohistochemistry laboratory, provides instruction in special techniques, methodology and the reading and interpreting of test results to students, residents; provides all of the above except the reading and interpreting of test results to the pathologists.


    Performs immunohistochemsitry staining procedures on frozen and paraffin tissue sections including biopsy and surgical specimens for the detection of a variety of antigens including viral, hormonal and bacterial.

    Studies lymphoid tissues for deposition of immunoglobulins, light chains and does B and T cell phenotyping for the detection of lymphoma.

    Expert in morphological location, identification and distribution of B cell and T cell antigens.


    Maintains quality control logs on a variety of equipment including IHC instrumentation, refrigerators, freezers, alarm systems, Lab Safety, Breast Pathology, Online Forms, etc.

    Maintains inventory and orders supplies as needed, including inventory application.

    Effective interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail.

    Must be organized and capable of following protocols and have ability to devise or adapt techniques if needed to achieve desired goals.

    Supervisory skills are needed to instruct technologist or residents.


    Minimum of a high school degree or graduate of a NCCALS approved school of Histotechnology or Associates Degree; Bachelor's degree preferred.

    Five years clinical experience, or seven years histology experience in a research setting

    Must be registered HT(ASCP) or HLT(ASCP)
