    What you will be doing

    This position is located at our client site, Apple Pharmacy at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, 160 E. Erie Ave, Philadelphia, PA

    Full time. Shifts are typically 8 to 10 hours. With rotating weekends and holidays.

    Cencora has managed and staffed the retail pharmacy program at various Tower Health locations since 2017. In 2024, St. Christopher's Hospital for Children retail pharmacy location will be included in our expansion.

    As of August 24, 2021, Cencora requires all U.S. team members to be fully vaccinated and show proof of completed vaccine status at time of hire. We currently employ pharmacists in both clinical and ambulatory settings with a support staff of technicians in various roles.     Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist- the Pharmacy Technician obtains all relevant clinical and prescription plan information to prepare prescription orders for patients. This position is categorized as compliance critical and, as such, requires and is assigned specific responsibility for ensuring continual and proper compliance with all division, corporate and regulatory requirements.

    • Responsible for creating a patient profile in the pharmacy information system.
    • Communicates with patients, prescribers, and other staff to solve problems or answer questions.
    • Enters necessary prescription plan information in the patient profile for processing and adjudicating patient's prescriptions.
    • Responsible for entering all new patient prescription information into the pharmacy information system.
    • Addresses insurance, reimbursement, and payment issues as appropriate by communicating with insurance providers, patients, and pharmacists.
    • Participates in achieving business goals and metrics for the Ambulatory Pharmacy.
    • Retrieves and prepares the medication for pharmacist review and verification.
    • Submits/receives order and places inventory in stock.
    • Answers inbound telephone calls and triages calls as appropriate based upon the nature of the call to the appropriate staff.
    • Operates the point of sale system.
    • Assists with the review and handling of all adjudicated prescription claims to ensure appropriateness of reimbursement, co-pay and related financials and, if needed, as directed, follows up all such claims deemed inappropriate.
    • Assists Pharmacist by providing required information for therapeutic consults with patients.
    • Intervenes with Pharmacy Benefit Manager Companies to resolve plan and patient specific adjudication issues.
    • Actively participates by delivering medications and pharmaceutical supplies to patients within the hospital as outlined by the concierge prescription program.
    • Performs related duties as assigned.

    What your background should look like

    Normally requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly related and progressively responsible community pharmacy experience. Pharmacy technician certification with a national technical certification organization, such as Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required within 6 months of hire.

    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
    • Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Ability to resolve patient issues quickly and creatively in order to improve customer satisfaction
    • Familiarity with pharmaceutical products, services and drug interactions
    • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail
    • Good analytical skills
    • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
