02/28/2026 - Assists in coordinating the assignment of Registered Professional Nurses to Nassau BOCES schools and non-public schools.
- Assists in supervising school nurses in their diverse settings.
- Assists in assigning nursing personnel and secures substitute help to maintain district-wide nursing coverage.
- Assists in coordinating response to medical emergencies.
- Assists in evaluating the work of Registered Professional Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Child Care Aides, and others.
- Participates in program development.
- Substitutes at schools in the absence of the assigned nurse.
- Assists in providing a program of specialized training and workshops for staff.
- Participates in decision-making and resolving problems as they arise at the various nursing sites.
- Participates in the selection of staff and makes recommendations for hiring.
- Assists in previewing, reviewing, evaluating, and recommending the purchase of materials, equipment, supplies, and consultant/performer services.
- Acts as liaison between the health office and school administration.
- Confers with parents and/or guardians of children.
- Supervises or assigns work to health office staff, as required.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices involved in school nursing services and administration.
- Considerable knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
- Considerable knowledge of the functions of technical apparatus and pharmaceuticals utilized in patient care and treatment.
- Considerable knowledge of social, physical, and psychological sciences.
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement school nursing services to effectively meet the needs of the district
- Ability to plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
- Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, local school districts, students, teachers, parents, and others.
- Ability to apply school nursing skills in a broad array of school settings with diverse cultures and philosophies.
- Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York.
- Possession of an appropriate class, valid Driver License issued by the State of New York.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Assists in coordinating the assignment of Registered Professional Nurses to Nassau BOCES schools and non-public schools; performs related duties as required.
COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of considerable independent judgment in assisting in coordinating the assignment of Registered Professional Nurses to Nassau BOCES schools and non-public schools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a major in Nursing
and
Three years of satisfactory experience as a registered nurse, including two years as a school nurse

SALARY: As per contract.
