    Job Summary:

    The Department Manager is a key role responsible for managing the technical, operational, and financial aspects of the Building Inspection Department. This position supervises department personnel, business development efforts, and performs building inspection and plans examiner duties as required.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Supervise department personnel, including interviewing and selecting employees to fill vacant positions.

    • Manage 1-20 building inspectors, plan reviewers, quality control inspectors, and office administrative staff.

    • Perform Structural Building Inspection duties, including inspecting commercial and residential buildings under construction or repair.

    • Determine whether changes may be required in plans and make recommendations to contractors, engineers, architects, etc.

    • Maintain accurate, complete, and current inspection records.

    • Exercise tact and courtesy when conducting inspections and communicating with clients.

    • Prepare reports and report data in a complete, timely, and understandable fashion.

    • Complete daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy.

    • Ensure that project requirements are met and compliant with inspection specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures.

    • Travel to various job sites at locations both locally and throughout the State of Florida.

    Requirements:

    • Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

    • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida's Jessica Lunsford Act.

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

    • State of Florida Standard Building Inspector License (BN) Or Building Code Administrator License (BU).

    • State of Florida Standard 1 + 2 Family Inspector License.

    • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop and learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing License.

    • State of Florida Plan Review Certification (PX).

    • State of Florida P.E. or Architect License and 3-5 years of related construction experience.

    • Certified Building Official License (CBO).

    Physical Demands & Work Environment:

    • Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk and hear.

    • Lifting and/or moving up to thirty-five lbs. regularly is expected, on occasion.

    • This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud.
