Job Description
We're seeking a dedicated Shop/Field assistant for a hybrid role that blends hands-on manufacturing in our shop with real-world field applications. This position is perfect for someone who thrives in a mix of precise assembly work and on-site problem-solving in the corrosion prevention industry.
You'll spend approximately 75% of your time in our manufacturing facility producing and assembling cathodic protection components, and 25% in the field performing installations, inspections, and maintenance on water tanks, pipelines, and related systems. Travel is within California, with company-provided vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
- Manufacturing/Shop Work (75%):
- Fabricate and assemble cathodic protection components, including reference electrodes, sacrificial anodes, impressed current systems, test stations, and related hardware using tools like grinders, welders, and specialized equipment.
- Perform quality control inspections to meet industry standards (e.g., NACE, AWWA).
- Operate machinery for mixing, applying, and curing protective materials in a controlled environment.
- Maintain inventory of raw materials and contribute to process improvements.
- Field Work (25%):
- Conduct on-site surveys and assessments of water tanks, pipelines, and structures to detect corrosion risks.
- Install and apply corrosion control solutions, including surface preparation, coating applications, anode installations, and cathodic protection systems.
- Perform testing, maintenance, and adjustments on existing systems (e.g., potential measurements, rectifier checks).
- Document work with reports, photos, and data for client compliance and records.
- General:
- Follow all safety protocols (OSHA, company guidelines) in shop and field settings.
- Participate in training on cathodic protection technologies and best practices.
- Support occasional emergency field response as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate in manufacturing, welding, or related field preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial assembly, surface preparation, , or corrosion control (entry-level with relevant skills/certifications welcome).
- Hands-on familiarity with tools for metal fabrication and electrical components.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for field work (up to 25% of time).
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and handle outdoor tasks in various weather.
- Basic understanding of corrosion and cathodic protection principles; NACE certification (e.g., CP1, Coating Inspector) is a plus—we provide training support.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in water utility, pipeline, or cathodic protection industries.
- Welding certification (e.g., AWS) or knowledge of impressed current/galvanic systems.
- Comfort with digital reporting tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, mobile apps).
- Strong commitment to safety and quality in corrosion mitigation.
