    UFG is currently hiring for a Commercial Lines Underwriting Supervisor whose primary role is to manage a territory averaging between $20,000,000 to $75,000,000 in written premium, while providing meaningful support for regional and company initiatives. The CL Underwriting Supervisor supports underwriters in delivering quality products and services to our customers that fit our appetite and underwriting vision by offering training, support, file audits & approvals. They will provide a supportive, constructive environment for team members as well as identify training needs and development opportunities to assist team members meeting their individual and collective potentials. Additionally, they will enhance agency relationships by hiring the right team members and matching the right underwriters with agency partners.

    While this is a remote opportunity, the candidate should reside in one of these states: IA, KS, MO, ND, NE, SD.

    Responsibilities:

    • Underwriting Management
      • Coordinate and assist in production, underwriting activities, training, mentoring and workflow for all team members
      • Coordinate maintenance of rates, rules, and forms, including gather and analyzing information
      • Assist underwriters to manage their territories to optimize growth while maintaining underwriting discipline to keep loss ratios at profitable levels
      • Depending on the needs of the region, may directly underwrite for certain agents or specific accounts
    • Team Management Coaching and Training
      • Review and sign off on file referrals for underwriting staff
      • Monitor and report to Underwriting Managers, underwriting quality and team.
      • Evaluate, develop and administer regular 1:1 meeting, salary recommendations and annual operating plan
      • Monitor team performance, develop coaching and development plans
      • Document and discuss performance related issues
      • Partner with Corporate Underwriting to develop and participate in offered training as SME.
      • Interview and select new team members
      • Lead weekly team huddle meetings with staff
      • Perform regular quality assurance (QA) file reviews; monitor and coach both individuals and team based on results
      • Facilitate team leadership and development within a hybrid/remote work environment
    • Agency Management/Marketing
      • Coordinate & assist in customers/agency relations including agency review and implementation of strategic plan
      • Develop & implement individual business plans for key agents
      • Assist in identification of new production sources
    Qualifications:

    Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent degree required; 4-year college degree preferred
    • AU designation and striving to achieve CIC or CPCU designation
    • Leadership/Management certification or educational experience preferred.
    Experience:
    • 5+ years of insurance experience required, preferably in an underwriting role
    Knowledge, skills & abilities:
    • Strong leader, motivator & coach.
    • Advanced underwriting and insurance knowledge
    • Effective communicator with strong analytical skills, creativity and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to develop a plan and to successfully implement the plan with minimal supervision
    • Technical expertise in insurance with strong knowledge of risk appetite
    • Strong negotiation skills
    • Ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with agency partners
    • Ability to hire and retain contributing team members
    • Excellent delegation and employee development skills
