    POSITION GOALS


    The Mental Health Counselor is is commited to the success and retention of students and is responsible for providing comprehensive mental health and wellness services and programming for the college student body on all campuses.

    The counselor will provide confidential individual and group counseling services, outreach and events providing preventative wellness information, and consultation and training services for staff and faculty regarding the mental health needs of our students.

    The counselor will demonstrate and promote a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Provide short-term, culturally informed clinical services such as individual and group therapy, crisis intervention and same day brief assessments on multiple campuses.
    • Counsel students on both an appointment and a drop-in/emergency basis in-person and via tele-health; make referrals as needed.
    • Recruit, hire and train master's and bachelor's level interns.
    • Provide crisis management support to the campus community.
    • Serve as the primary intake representative for the Mental Health Center.
    • Maintain confidential student records; provides and documents case management and referral services as needed.
    • Assist in providing training to the campus community for recognizing and handling students in need of assistance.
    • Provide educational information and related activities campus-wide to increase health and wellness awareness.
    • Work collaboratively with numerous departments across campus, including but not limited to Public Safety, Academic Affairs, Disability Services Office, Student Services.
    • Chair the college's BIT (Behavioral Intervention Team).
    • Communicate with faculty, staff, and students regarding the services available through the Counseling Center.
    • Maintain records of student contacts and correspondence, with due regard to confidentiality.
    • Ability to work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socio economic backgrounds.
    • Comply with all safety, fire, and smoking regulations.
    • Complete all mandatory compliance and safety training as scheduled by Human Resources.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or related area required.
    • Clinical mental health licensure (LCSW,LPC, LMFT) required, advanced certifications preferred.
    • 3-5 years of clinical experience required; experience working in a higher education institution or with postsecondary students preferred.
    • Demonstrated competence in time-limited individual psychotherapy as well as group counseling with diverse populations required.
    • Valid driver's license, insurance, and access to private vehicle required; travel to all campuses required.
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and ability to function independently
    • Experience in mental health evaluations and assessment required.

    Academic Year:
    Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.


    Summer Hours:
    Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
