    Description
    The Category Marketing Manager is responsible for purchasing items competitively to meet product offering & service level needs of our customers. They are responsible for growth of our primary vendors, in addition to negotiating marketing, promotions and pricing for company and customer profitability. The Category Manager works closely with the marketing and sales teams to provide the best service and growth for Martin Bros, our customers, and our vendors.
    Expectations:
    Responsible for the management of the vendor line and performance. Work closely with vendor partners to negotiate competitive pricing and programs. Responsible for growing our sales of key vendor to outpace industry growth. Maximize programs and look for opportunities to grow and consolidate items.
    • Sales/Growth and profit performance
    • Negotiations, marketing, growth, IM and data entry of these programs
    • Maximize growth programs
    • New item additions, consolidation opportunities
    Marketing Product and Vendors. Active involvement with Marketing Department/Marketing Coordinator in merchandising/marketing new and existing products to increase sales and profits. Marketing product to internal (sales) as well as external customers.
    • Advertise the items through B2B, specials sheets, flyers, etc.
    • Promote the items to the sales force and customers
    • Participate actively with Marketing for new ideas in marketing approaches
    • Identify targeted customers and direct brokers/sales for line growth
    Oversee the level and quality of inventory to meet company and customer expectations. Ensure we have the correct items to support our customers needs and constantly seek new items that will support growth. Ensure we have correct inventory and service levels and we are priced competitively.
    • Maintain expected service levels and inventory levels, assist in procurement as needed
    • Identify, communicate, and eliminate closeout items/consolidations
    • Seek out new vendors/products or new items within current vendors to better meet the needs of Martin Bros. customers
    • Monitor Commodity Markets, market intelligence and crop conditions to ensure supply and competitiveness - accurately manage costing weekly - communicate trends and conditions
    Resources for sales and customer's needs. The Category Manager serves as a resource to support and educate sales and customers about product and trends.
    • Locate specific vendor/item requests
    • Utilize resources provided by vendors and brokers to educate sales and our customers (chefs, websites, cuttings, etc.)
    • Stay up to date on consumer insights and trends
    • Assist with sampling
    • Visit customers as requested
    Requirements
    Education:
    Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, or one to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Skills and Qualifications:
    • Ability to be resourceful in food service arena
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
    • Ability to problem solve and provide solutions
    • Ability to communicate on the phone and in person through strong verbal skills with customers, vendors, and sales staff
    • Ability to be customer service oriented - committed to achieving customer's expectations
    • Analytical skills to perform tasks of inventory levels, fill rates, and minimize shrink
    • Merchandising skills - ability to interpret from data and conversations what customer's needs and expectations are
    • Prioritize and delegate time effectively between re-order functions and merchandising functions.
    • Present information in public format - sales meetings etc.
