    Immigration Staff Attorney Job Summary

    The Center for Immigration Legal & Support Services (CILSS) is committed to advancing racial, gender, and economic equity through high-quality legal representation and case management. As an Immigration Staff Attorney, you will provide direct legal representation to low-income individuals and families in the Bay Area, helping them overcome systemic barriers and achieve their aspirations.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide affirmative and defensive immigration services, with a primary focus on representing unaccompanied minors.
    • Prepare applications or petitions with supporting evidence and represent clients before USCIS and EOIR.
    • Support other attorneys, accredited representatives, and volunteers on substantive legal matters and participate in case selection criteria development.
    • Represent clients in guardianship, parentage, and custody proceedings in California Superior Courts, as well as SIJS and asylum applications before the San Francisco Immigration Court or USCIS.
    • Work closely with partner community-based organizations and social services to ensure clients receive holistic support.
    • Maintain accurate client files and documentary evidence required to prove eligibility for legal benefits and equities under applicable law.
    • Participate in community events, including consultations, supervision, and final case reviews.

    Requirements

    • Licensed attorney in good standing with the California State Bar.
    • 1-3 years of experience providing direct legal immigration services and working knowledge of immigration law, policies, and procedures.
    • SIJS-related work experience and complex immigration case expertise preferred.
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
    • Capacity to work under pressure with minimal supervision and discuss sensitive topics with vulnerable populations.
    • Computer proficiency in immigration software, Word, PowerPoint, email, and internet.

    Working Environment

    This is a full-time position based in San Francisco, serving clients from across the Bay Area. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a dynamic office environment with frequent travel between offices and community events.
