    Safe Horizon's mission is to provide support, prevent violence and promote justice for victims of crime and abuse, their families and communities.

    Streetwork Project is the oldest street outreach program for homeless and street-involved youth in New York City. The program has grown from its beginnings in 1984 as a storefront project to encompass both outreach and comprehensive harm reduction services. Streetwork's programs are innovative outreach-counseling programs for homeless youth, which use a harm reduction, client centered, and trauma-informed approach. Services include counseling, syrginge exchange, HIV prevention, case management, drop-in, daily living services, meals, groups, legal services, benefits, mental health, and medical. The core service is long-term, one-on-one counseling, which is offered in a non-judgemental and holistic manner utilizing a harm reduction approach that focuses on building trust, fostering self-esteem, exploring options and choices, and empowering youth to change their high-risk behaviors. The psychiatrist collaborates with our supervising social workers and staff around the psychiatric needs of our clients to ensure access to eligible supportive housing options, as well as resources and benefits acquisition including SSI/SSD and We Care services.

    Consultant Deliverables:
    • Psychiatric evaluations of clients in need, including for housing and benefits applications
    • Buprenorphine assisted treatment including prescribing and induction for young injection drug users
    • Oversight of overdose prevention services including OOP Training and Naloxone dispensing for staff
    • Psychotropic management and/or therapy sessions
    • Case documentation of sessions
    • Clinical consultation to staff
    Required Skills & Qualifications:
    • Experience working with injection drug user population
    • Understanding of Harm Reduction approach preferred
    • Understanding of clinical and mental health issues affecting injection drug users
    • NYS License required
    • Malpractice insurance required
    • Board-Certified/Board Eligible preferred
    • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
    • Experience with youth and/or homeless population preferred
