    Job Description:

    The IDEALS office leads centralized efforts to support the basic science departments in three ways: developing and implementing pathway programs and recruitment initiatives to increase the diversity of the trainee and faculty population in the School of Medicine, developing lectures and training materials to increase the cultural competency of the School of Medicine academic community, and providing strategic support and accountability metrics to the Basic Science department chairs to promote inclusion in the research environment at the unit level.

    BioCoRE Program Director Responsibilities:

    • Manage Student Leadership Committees, BioCoRE peer mentoring programs, and Prelim PREP group established to give scholars ownership in the activities and direction of the BioCoRE community.
    • Conduct one-on-one check-ins with each BioCoRE scholar.
    • Lead programming related to the Duke BioCoRE Program, including workshops, seminars, social events, and career development initiatives for all BioCoRE Scholars.
    • Organize and lead the "Early Start" program for incoming scholars through coordinating academic, community building, and career development programming.
    • Spearhead the planning and facilitation of the annual BioCoRE retreat, coordinating connections and collaborations with partner institutions.
    • Represent Duke BioCoRE at conferences and arrange Scholar attendance to promote recruitment of students to the program.
    • Provide information regarding BioCoRE during graduate program interviews and actively work with BioCoRE-affiliated departments to recruit prospective PhD students from diverse backgrounds.
    • Identify and maintain collaborations with partner institutions including relevant STEM departments at regional HBCUs, MSIs, and STEM diversity initiatives at PWIs.
    • Develop partnerships with other IMSD Program Coordinators and serve as the lead liaison in the Mid-Atlantic PREP and IMSD Research Symposium group.

    Requirements:

    Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. Candidates with a background in a STEM discipline and PhD-level training preferred. Work requires the ability to plan and administer programs and direct program activities, generally acquired through four years of related experience.

    Estimated Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 per year.
