    Summary



    The Radiation Oncology Section (RadOnc) physician assistant (PA) is responsible for the care and administrative needs of the RadOnc patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting of the subsection of Radiology.

    The PA also functions as a coordinator between the attending physician and the other team members to include Nursing, Hematology, Social Work, Rehabilitative Services and Dietician.

    This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until April 30, 2024. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be October 31, 2023. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.
    Provide medical and surgical care for both inpatients and outpatients in the RadOnc section. These patients often have concomitant medical problems and area multi-symptomatic.

    The PA shall coordinate patient care programs based upon the admitting chief complaint and shall perform the following duties:


    • Primary responsibility is for follow-up care of RadOnc rural patients as defined by the VA Office of Rural Health.
    • Admission history and physicals, admission orders, aftercare plans and discharge
    summaries.


    • Provide medical education /counseling of patients and their families.
    • Assist Radiation Oncologists in RadOnc procedures, prepping and draping, and other
    duties and second assist in RadOnc other cases as assigned.


    • Work with the departmental RN's to utilize and maximize proficient procedures and
    assist with upcoming case scheduling.


    • Work with the RadOnc Medical Director to recognize and treat pain management
    cases in order to operate as a facilitator for pain management.


    • Demonstrate the ability to diagnose and treat RadOnc patients seen in consultation
    with the RadOnc Medical Director and other oncologists at the Dallas VAMC.


    • Integrates the activities of the RadOnc service with other patient care programs at the
    facility.


    • Serves as Clinical Facilitator for the RadOnc Office of Rural Health patients from
    RadOnc Section as needed.


    • Demonstrates expertise in diagnosing and treating ill multi-symptomatic patients.

    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00AM to 4:30PM
