- Provide innovative and comprehensive instruction designed to develop critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving and higher order thinking skills.
- Serve as grade-level advisor to a small group of students and contribute to grade-level advisory activities, field trips, and possible overnight class trips.
- Create and manage a caring, supportive, purposeful and stimulating environment which is conducive to student learning.
- Plan and prepare lessons in order to deliver the curriculum that ensures breadth and balance in subjects.
- Identify clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes with appropriate challenges and high expectations.
- Organize and manage groups or individual students, ensuring differentiation of learning needs and reflecting all abilities.
- Plan opportunities to develop the social, emotional and cultural aspects of student learning.
- Maintain a regular system of monitoring assessment, record-keeping and reporting of student progress.
- Contribute to the development and coordination of the department's curriculum and math contests.
- Communicate and partner with parents over all aspects of their advisory student's education – academic, social and emotional.
- Nurture an inclusive environment in which all students can participate fully and have a sense of belonging.
- Recognize health and safety is a responsibility of every employee, take responsible care of self and others, and comply with the school's health and safety policies and protocols.
- Bachelor degree in Elementary Education or English Language Arts; Advanced degree preferred
- Teaching experience preferred
- Teaching certificate not necessary but favorably considered
- Experience with Canvas or other Learning Management Systems is preferred
- Proficient use of technology
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Professional collegiality and enthusiasm for young people required
- Preference to candidates with coaching experience or expressed willingness to coach
