    Duration: 3 months

    General Statement of Duties:

    The Department Administrator (DA) provides leadership for the Department's administrative needs; serves as an administrative assistant, strategic partner, and advisor to the Chair and keeps them informed as appropriate; ensures the efficient management of all administrative functions, including personnel, budget and finance, grants management, departmental policy development and implementation, program management, academic appointments and related human resources functions in support of departmental and School-wide initiatives.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Primary Liaison: Main contact for the department; resolves issues for students, faculty, staff, and postdocs.
    • Strategic & Operational Management: Contributes to strategic planning and proactively anticipates departmental needs (fiscal, staffing, operations).
    • Financial Oversight: Manages all departmental budgets—developing, forecasting, reconciling, and monitoring spending. Handles all invoices and incoming funds.
    • Human Resources Management: Serves as HR contact; oversees hiring, evaluations, performance management, and terminations.
    • Appointments & Promotions: Manages all faculty/staff appointments, reappointments, promotions, and searches.
    • Grant Administration: Manages pre-award grant submissions and partners on post-award management and reporting.
    • Compliance & Policy: Ensures compliance with laws and policies; develops internal procedures and drafts policy memos.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
    • Minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience
    • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Applications and web-based applications.

    Additional Preferred Qualifications

    • Exceptional organizational skills, the ability to use independent judgment and discretion, and the capacity to multi-task and be proactive are necessary.
    • Also important are attention to detail, strong communication skills and interpersonal skills.
    • Grant administration experience are advantages.
    • Prior supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
