    Summary

    The Director of Applied Learning and Design is responsible for developing, planning, managing, supporting, organizing, and implementing the program course offerings in the areas of Performing Arts, Visual and Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education, Summer School, and After School Care. The incumbent in this position provides direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of these areas in support of effective instructional practices, communication, and operation efficiency in all Fulton County Schools. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in curriculum development, instructional leadership, and a passion for fostering academic excellence among students.

    Essential Duties

    • Provides leadership, direction, accountability, and coherence for the department personnel including coaching, performance management, strategic planning and decision-making that aligns with the goals, mission, and vision of the school system
    • Provides direction and leadership in the development of a comprehensive curriculum that is aligned to District initiatives for all K-12 schools in each content area
    • Develops and implements comprehensive summer school programming including cross-departmental collaboration and supporting school leadership
    • Oversees the development and enhancement of the curriculum and collaborates with teachers and school administration to monitor and support program effectiveness
    • Promotes and provides support for effective instructional practices and professional development through the use of research-based data-driven best practices
    • Monitors school system data to determine trends and, in turn, develops and implements the most effective strategies for meeting and exceeding student achievement goals
    • Leads a process for the evaluation, selection, and acquisition of instructional materials, assessments, supplies, equipment, and textbooks to support the various curriculum
    • Leads the development of systemic plans to evaluate, implement, or sunset programming including creating multi-year execution schedules, building accountability systems, and prioritizing available budgetary and human capital resources
    • Assists administrators and school leaders in evaluating and improving classroom instruction
    • Prepares and maintains an annual budget for all programs to ensure long-term and short-term plans are aligned with District and state priorities
    • Develops and maintains procedures for the administration of all program areas
    • Interviews and recommends the employment of personnel for all Applied Learning and Design areas, cooperatively with Principals
    • Represents the department at various community activities including parent and advisory committees and organizations
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
    Required Education

    Master's Degree in Education

    Certification/Licensure

    Must hold or be eligible for Georgia Teaching Certification in applicable subject area
    Leadership Certification strongly preferred

    Experience Qualifications

    Minimum 3 years supervisory experience, including school or district leadership experience and 3 additional years of classroom experience required; Experience in Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Health and PE, or Summer Learning programs preferred

    • Ability to manage financial material and human resources effectively
    • Proven ability to make recommendations on various topics, detailed, controversial, simple, or complex
    • Ability to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate program goals and initiatives
    • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, responsibilities, and people
    • Ability to exercise strict confidence in handling sensitive information
    • Must be skilled in collaborative leadership of individuals and groups
