Job description
Performs manual labor, semi-skilled, and technical work in landscape maintenance, ornamental horticulture, and/or construction and maintenance of County grounds and facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent and 2-3 years of related experience, or any combination of education and experience.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with good driving record mandatory.
Must be licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Certified Pesticide Applicator (State Category 3a and 3b), or must have the ability to obtain such license within 6 months of employment.
Safety shoes required.
Supplemental Information
Work is performed outdoors under all types of weather conditions with exposure to the usual hazards associated with outside maintenance and construction work.
This position is considered an Essential Position (County designation as ALPHA) which requires the employee to report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions, often outside normally scheduled work hours, or as notified by a supervisor.
Physical Demands
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including lawn mower, weed eater, chipper, edger, blower, chainsaw, hand tools, shovel, hoe, rake, pruning equipment, etc.
Much of the work involves heavy lifting and carrying of materials, bending, stooping, standing, and walking while doing the grounds keeping and construction activities.
