    The Position:
    The College seeks a full-time, tenure-track faculty member in Counseling. The ideal candidate will share the College's commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. This position reports to the Dean of Counseling, Advising, & Matriculation.

    The duties of this counselor will cover the full range of general counseling responsibilities including academic, career, and personal counseling with both individuals and groups and teaching discipline-specific courses.

    The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2024.


    Duties and Responsibilities:


    The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position.

    Provide comprehensive in-person and online counseling services to students, including academic, career, and personal counseling on a drop-in and appointment basis
    Provide group counseling sessions, orientations, workshops, and other activities to support student transfer success
    Develop, coordinate, and/or implement comprehensive transfer counseling services and programs
    Provide transfer application support and assist students with waitlist/denial notices and transfer appeals
    Serve as transfer lead for the Counseling Division and assist with transfer-related training
    Develop comprehensive educational plans for graduation and transfer, based on students academic needs
    Assist students in the exploration and research of transfer majors and colleges/universities, both in and out-of-state
    Monitor student performance and progress, including transfer and retention, and maintain appropriate documentation and records
    Collaborate and consult with the Transfer Center, Counseling Division, and Admissions & Records staff and faculty to support ongoing training, program development and program management
    Coordinate and support campus-wide transfer-focused events
    Collaborate with instructional and counseling faculty and staff to assist students in accessing, understanding and utilizing counseling services, college success services, and transfer resources
    Lead and represent the Transfer Center in campus-wide initiatives and governance committees
    Participate in transfer club and transfer team meetings
    Develop and teach college success and transfer-focused courses and workshops
    Collaborate with faculty and staff in special programs to maximize student transfer success and equitable outcomes
    Participate in divisional and college-wide shared governance committees
    Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs
    Participate in pre-collegiate outreach and in-reach activities that promote transfer awareness for all students



    Minimum Qualifications:

    Masters or above in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling

    A Bachelors degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)


    Minimum of one (1) year of experience providing transfer counseling to community college students
    Knowledge and experience in enhancing the retention of students from diverse racial, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds
    Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic,

    socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity minded-practice both within and outside of the classroom

    Degree Equivalence
    The applicant possesses a degree(s) with similar content to those listed for the relevant discipline.

    The name of the degree is close to that specified on the Disciplines List but the degree either has a different title or area of expertise or the coursework is slightly different.

    Academic Background Equivalence
    Related to disciplines in which a Masters Degree is not generally expected or available.

    The applicant must have completed at least 24 semester units of coursework in the academic field and must possess at least the equivalent level of achievement and the equivalent in breadth, depth of understanding, and rigor in each of the following:

    i) a broad cultural education usually met by the general education requirements for any Bachelors or Associates Degree, and

    ii) a detailed study of the discipline in breadth, depth, and rigor, usually met by course work required for the degree major.

    Professional Achievement Equivalence

    The applicant must have completed the General Education requirements for that degree and show evidence of outstanding professional achievement and/or substantial training in the requested field.

    The applicant must submit substantial evidence, which demonstrates that his/her preparation, teaching experience, work experience, and ability are equivalent to those expected from a person who meets the minimum qualifications.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    The screening committee will select for interview candidates from among those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, give evidence of any or all of the following:

    Experience in developing comprehensive student educational plans (SEPs) for graduation and transfer, based on students academic goals
    Experience in supporting students with the exploration and research of transfer majors and colleges/universities, both in and out-of-state
    Knowledge of legislative policies that impact transfer and articulation
    Comprehensive knowledge and experience applying state-wide college and university transfer admissions requirements, articulation agreements, policies, and procedures for counseling community college students
    Experience in the development, coordination, and implementation of comprehensive counseling services and programs
    Knowledge of counseling and student development theories and relevant applications to program development
    Experience supporting students in crisis
    Familiarity with program performance evaluation
    Experience in developing counseling-related workshops and orientation sessions
    Experience in the development of workshops and training for students, faculty, and classified professionals
    Experience in teaching classes and workshops related to academic, transfer, and career counseling
    Proficient in the use of technology to retrieve student, college/transfer, and career information and resources
    Demonstrated leadership or program management experience
    Demonstrated commitment to collaborating with both instructional and counseling faculty, classified professionals, and administration
    Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Recent experience working with racially minoritized and other disproportionately-impacted students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education and particular fields shape patterns of participation and outcomes
    Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized and other disproportionately impacted students
    Experience and skill with addressing inequity in the classroom and on campus
    Experience and expertise in culturally-responsive teaching in college success and career and personal development
    Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within college success and career and personal development courses and classrooms
    Demonstrated knowledge of the implications of the Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) designations for institutional, departmental and instructional practices
    Demonstrated success in coordinating college-wide programs and services
    Demonstrated experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
    Demonstrated experience implementing transfer programming
