Responsible for the engineering and design of the physical aspects of transmission and distribution substations. As a member of a team, resolve problems that may impact Dairyland and its member cooperatives and municipals.

Provide continuing technical support to other departments internally to Dairyland and externally, as necessary, to support Dairyland and its member cooperatives and municipals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Responsible, with minimal supervision, for the engineering and design of high voltage and medium voltage substations. Engineering and design of substations to include general arrangements, equipment and electrical layout, elevations, cable trench and raceway design, foundation design and bills of materials.
• Review designs for new substations and modifications to existing stations. Ensure designs conform to industry codes and safety standards including RUS, OSHA, ANSI, NEC, NESC, local and other applicable standards and codes.
• Responsible for the preparation and revisions of material and equipment specifications. Work with purchasing and project management staff to procure material necessary for substation maintenance and construction activities.
• Coordinate with other Dairyland technical and field personnel to assist in problem solving, construction changes and schedule changes.
• Responsible for creating or assisting project managers with creating project scopes, cost estimates and schedules for capital and maintenance projects.
• Responsible for performing engineering calculations relating to the physical design of the substations such as, equipment ratings, bus calculations and others.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:
Two (2) years of accredited technical school in civil/structural design or related field.

Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in the areas of substation physical design, structural design, control and/or construction.

Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Knowledge of project estimating and engineering economics.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Must have good oral and written communication skills
• Experience with computer aided drafting software such as AutoCAD is preferred
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at various levels
• Must be self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of power systems is desirable
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)

Work primarily indoors with occasional outdoor work at substations and powerline right of ways. Outdoor work may occur in various weather conditions and near electrical hazards.
