Position Summary
Responsible for providing therapy services to patients and their families as part of a multidisciplinary team with most emphasis on group therapy. Provides case management and follow up with patients, documents daily in the charts, assists in program development. Develops, implements and reviews treatment plans. Behavioral Health Therapist may work in inpatient, hospital outpatient, ambulatory settings. May be embedded in primary care or other specialty. Possible cross coverage for other areas.
Responsibilities
Coordination
Provides treatment coordination with assigned patients; evaluates data from all sources and recommends referrals as needed; provides or refers out to additional services when y therapy as deemed necessary by self and other team members.
Develops lectures and other educational materials as requested by leadership.
In some settings, enter professional fee or other charges for applicable services provided.
Contacts assigned patients if they are absent for scheduled services. Documents response in the EHR; calls clients when they are absent from scheduled group after 2 days of absence; participates in direct and indirect activities related to marketing both the hospital and its program; overall work performance is dedicated to meeting and exceeding the performance improvement standards of the department; and, participates in department performance improvement program and projects.
Communication
Keeps Treatment Team informed of patient needs and community issues.
Wears ECU Health identification badge while on duty.
Provides notification of absence from work in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Reports safety incidents and hazards to immediate supervisor and submits facility incident report work and work order forms to maintenance; promptly reports all equipment malfunctions to immediate supervisor and notifies Maintenance department.
Seeks direction when indicated for unusual or non-routine duties; advise appropriate personnel (i.e., Supervisor) of situations requiring nursing, administrative or technical expertise and follow-up; establishes and maintains positive, productive working relationships within the department/service line team as well as with other ECU Health departments; and, recognizes which decisions may be made independently and which require team and/or supervisory input and when this recognition is made, pursues the course of action in an efficient manner.
Customer Satisfaction
Orients new staff members to the counseling discipline within the program.
Represents the department in a positive manner in ECU Health l and within the community.
Demonstrates telephone courtesy under all circumstances, responding within three (3) rings and taking and delivering messages when necessary.
Treats each patient with appropriate dignity and respect and projects a non-judgmental attitude; patients, family members, physicians, visitors and other staff members are extended appropriate respect and courtesy; provides direction to patients, families, and visitors in a concise, informative manner ensuring a pleasing, positive attitude and courteous tone of voice; maintains the confidentiality of all patient and hospital activities and records; protects the confidentiality of each individual patient and his/her family members both in the hospital and in the community; assists in maintaining a therapeutic milieu environment; maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients; and, demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient rights.
Minimum Requirements
Master's degree in Social Work , Counseling (Clinical), or Marriage & Family Therapy.
Master's degree in Psychology may be considered if fully licensed as any of the above disciplines.
North Carolina full licensure to practice as professional Social Worker (LCSW), Counselor (LCMHC), or Marriage& Family Therapist (LMFT).
Non-Violent Crises Intervention certification within 60 days of hire for all inpatient roles required.
