    Description

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    A bachelor's degree from an accredited college and six (6) months of experience in environmental protection, regulation, or health; one of the physical or natural sciences; or engineering; or

    One and a half (1.5) years of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida; or

    Two (2) years of experience as described above.

    Possession of a valid Class E Driver License.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    The incumbent of this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36, F.A.C.

    Occasional travel required.

    NOTES:

    Successful applicants must pass a background screening, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment.

    Flextime in work schedule is available and may be requested for alternate work hours.

    JOB DUTIES:

    Conduct review of enforcement case files to assure proper quality and content and evaluate the need for enforcement action. Prepare new or follow-up investigation requests as a result of reviews and other information or requests. Perform these activities in accordance with section policies and procedures.

    Identify documented violations of department statutes or rules in enforcement case files. Prepare draft documents outlining enforcement action to be taken for review by supervisor. Perform these activities in accordance with section policies and procedures.

    Maintain knowledge of state and federal regulations. Read and interpret pesticide labels, regulations and legal descriptions. Regularly review current versions of Chapters 388, 487 and 482, F.S., and Rules 5E-2, 5E-9, 5E-13 and 5E-14, F.A.C.

    Update, transmit, retrieve and change information to records in assigned databases. Perform these activities in accordance with section policies and procedures.

    Receive referrals and complaints relative to pesticide production, sale, distribution, use, human exposure, etc. and forward information to the referral coordinator. In coordination with the referral coordinator, prepare work requests to the field staff to initiate investigations, research related information and case files, and provide background information as necessary to support the work request.

    Serve as representative of the department in administrative hearings, court proceedings or meetings as necessary.

    Communicate verbally and in writing with complainants and respondents to provide accurate information on enforcement case status.

    Participate as required in review of pesticide labels as part of pesticide regulatory program.

    Perform other related work as required.
