This position involves performing a combination of skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor tasks in Newport News Virginia area.The Grounds Maintenance Worker will assemble materials to make framework or props using hand tools and wood screws nails dowel pins or glue Build repair cabinets doors frameworks floors and other wooden fixtures used in buildings using woodworking machines carpenter's hand tools and power tools Erect scaffolding ladders for assembling structures above ground level Remove damaged defective parts sections of structures repair replace using hand tools Apply paint stain varnish enamel finishes to equipment buildings bridges etc using brushes spray guns rollers Apply primers sealers prepare new surfaces bare wood metal finish coats Cover surfaces drop cloths masking tape paper protect during painting Fill cracks holes joints caulk putty plaster fillers caulking guns putty knives Mix colors paint stain varnish thinning drying additives specified finishes Install structures fixtures windows frames floorings trim hardware carpenter's hand power tools Remove fixtures pictures doorknobs lamps electric switch covers prior painting Remove old finishes stripping sanding wire brushing burning water abrasive blasting Calculate material costs surface measurements work orders Read receive instructions supervisors determine requirements Cut fit assemble wood materials construction buildings highways bridges docks industrial plants boats many other structures Any duties assigned supervisor USF Senior Project Manager.
