    The Position

    Roche Sequencing Solutions, Inc. seeks a Director of Software Engineering in its Santa Clara, California location.

    Duties: Within a global biotechnology company, assist product management in product planning through requirements development and analysis and plan and manage requirements technical reviews and design reviews. Elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, storyboards, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, event lists, business analysis, competitive product analysis, task and workflow analysis and/or viewpoints. Write feature requirements and use case according to standard templates, using EARS and standard terminology. Identify business rules and feature interactions and dependencies and represent requirements using alternative views, such as analysis models (diagrams), prototypes or scenarios where appropriate. Serve as a facilitator of requirements reviews and participate in peer reviews and inspections of requirements documents. Participate in peer reviews of work products derived from requirements specifications to ensure that the requirements were interpreted correctly. Establish and implement effective requirements practices, including use and continuous improvement of a requirements process. Assist with the development of the organization's requirements engineering policies, procedures and tools. Implement ways to reuse requirements across projects. Manage requirements traceability information and track requirements status throughout the project and manage changes to baselined requirements through effective application of change control processes and tools. May supervise up to 9 software engineers, at various professional levels.

    Education and experience required: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, and 7 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in job offered or a closely related role.

    Special Requirements: Must have 7 years of experience with each of the following skills:

    • Google Cloud Platform to manage petabytes of data and process them into scalable ecosystem;
    • Identify requirements for product management and write extensive use cases with functional documents;
    • Lead a team of onsite/offshore software developers and manage their performance;
    • Perform software architecture, and plan and design cloud provider agnostic processing pipelines for data scientists in R&D, particularly processing pipelines for primary and secondary analysis of gene sequencing.
    May telecommute up to 2 days per week.

    The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of California is $259,368 to $297,744 per year. Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
