    General Description

    JOIN OUR TEAM AS A SR. RECREATION COORDINATOR - AQUATICS PROGRAMMER

    Highly responsible supervisory position in the development, implementation, coordination of the aquatics programs, recreation, special events and water safety education for the public.

    Essential Job Functions

    Assists with selecting, training, evaluating, and supervising part-time workers, and/or temporary contractual instructors and volunteers. Develops, staffs, schedules, equips, supervises, and evaluates seasonal and yearly aquatic recreation programs, special events and activities at Veterans Memorial Park Pool. Coordinates publicity, marketing programs and stimulation of community interest in programs and determines needs by establishing working relationships with community organizations, groups, participants and the general public. Actively participates in professional development activities and initiates and/or coordinates new program implementation at multiple facilities. Assists with preparing, evaluating, and implementing annual program budget. Evaluates and recommends new revenue sources. Keeps records and prepares and processes reports and payroll. Evaluates and identifies training needs to ensure that all safety rules are enforced, develops training classes, curriculum and lesson plans, and conducts orientation. Perform routine lifeguard duties, swimming instructor and staff trainer. Trains lifeguards as first responders including first aid, resuscitation, maintains an inventory, and replenishes lifesaving or first-aid supplies and equipment. Hires, schedules, assigns, oversees, and provides leadership to seasonal programming lifeguards. Performs light maintenance duties such as daily chemical testing. Position will be responsible for identifying and reporting and responding to any unplanned or emergency maintenance situations as needed. Maintains records and submits reports; prepares attendance sheets, daily reports and special activities summaries, and compiles accident reports. Duties include lifting, moving, pushing, and pulling heavy objects, sometimes way up to 50lbs. Performs related work as required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and philosophy of aquatic recreation programming, program supervision, facility management, and marketing techniques.
    • Organizes, schedules and coordinates programs and activities including but not limited to swim lessons, aqua fitness, water safety education, recreational and school swim teams.
    • Understanding of supervision and the ability to supervise others in an independent setting.
    • Hires, schedules, assigns, oversees, and provides leadership to seasonal programming lifeguards.
    • Trains lifeguards as first responders including first aid, resuscitation, maintains an inventory, and replenishes lifesavings or first-aid supplies and equipment.
    • Evaluates and identifies training needs to ensure that all safety rules are enforced, develops training classes, curriculum and lesson plans, and conducts orientation.
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with participants, community groups, other employees, and the general public.
    • Ability to prepare legible and accurate reports and maintain records; prepare attendance sheets, special activities summaries and compile accident reports
    • Ability to use independent judgment in developing and administering a specific phase of the recreation program to provide for the needs of the community.
    • Performs light maintenance duties such as daily chemical testing. Position will be responsible for identifying and reporting and responding to any unplanned or emergency maintenance situations as needed.
    • Ability to understand, interpret and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
    Minimum Requirements

    PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation or a related field and four (4) years paid experience in recreation programming with one (1) year of experience in aquatic recreation and program planning and implementation and eighteen (18) months in a lead or semi-supervisory position OR graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and six (6) years of paid experience in recreation programming with one (1) year of experience in aquatic recreation and program planning and implementation and eighteen (18) months in a lead or semi-supervisory position. Excellent interpersonal/communication skills required.

    In House Candidates: This position qualifies for DAP.

    LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Lifeguard Instructor, Lifeguard, CPR-First Aid and Water Safety Instructor preferred or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire date.
