    Maumee Valley Country Day School is seeking an innovative early childhood teaching assistant who uses a range of pedagogical techniques, including co-teaching, to reach all learners. An ideal candidate has experience differentiating instruction to preschool-aged students and creating lesson plans using real-world applications that reach a wide range of diverse learners. This full-time staff position reports to the Head of the Lower School and collaborates closely with the pre-kindergarten and junior kindergarten faculty.

    Lower School, PK/JK Teaching Assistant
    Maumee Valley Country Day School currently has an opening for an outstanding teaching assistant. The successful candidate must be a certified educator with experience working with preschool-age children and who possesses a true passion for developing a love of learning in his/her students.

    Key Responsibilities and Duties:
    • Involved in the supervision of the class or small groups of students at tasks assigned by the teacher in curricular areas (e.g., reading a story);
    • Assists in providing for the physical needs of students as regards health/hygiene, dressing/undressing (as appropriate);
    • Assists in the preparation of instructional materials and displays as directed;
    • Assists the students to/from specialist classes; assists in the supervision during assemblies, recess, and car line;
    • Accompany students on field trips and chaperone a small group of students;
    • Helps with the room set-up and clean-up at the start, throughout, and at the end of the day;
    • Assumes the supervision of students as scheduled;
    • Involved in the observation of students and documentation of learning experiences;
    • Actively engages in personal and professional work in support of the schools diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives;
    • Demonstrates a love for teaching and working with children
    • Differentiates instruction to provide enrichment for more capable students and remediation for students who need additional learning support;
    • Performs clerical duties as required;
    • In partnership with the teaching team, use a variety of assessment practices to determine student progress levels and create reteaching opportunities to assist students;
    • Implements developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young learners and uses best instructional practices to assist students in reaching high levels of academic growth;
    • Places a high value on productive collaboration between themselves and their grade-level partners
    • Displays a personal passion for keeping abreast of educational research and effective practice;
    • May need to cover short-term absences of the teacher;
    • May need to drive the school van for monthly field trips;
    • Works independently with minimum supervision;
    • Attendance at Back to School Night, open house events, and professional development meetings are required;
    • Engage in annual goal-setting and evaluation with the classroom teacher and the Head of the Lower School.
    • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head of the Lower School.

    Credentials:
    • Educational Aide Permit
    • Experience working with children in a classroom setting
    • Willing to become a van-certified driver
