he Substitute Lead Teacher-Early Childhood Education Lab is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate program activities for preschool children, assisting in training students who are studying to become teachers, and maintaining compliance with all program requirements for licensing and accreditation.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- BA or BS Degree in Education with hours in Early Child Education, Child Development or a bacelor's degree in a closely related field. Notes: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
- Teaching and/or work experience in early childhood education.
- Have or obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
- Copy of current medical examination & Tuberculosis test results
- Complete Criminal Background process and obtain a Qualifying letter from NC Division of Early Care and Education with approval to work in childcare in North Carolina.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
- Experience teaching.
Essential Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: including the following and other duties as needed.
- Prepare weekly lesson plans and implement activities to nurture and enhance all domains of child development
- Coordinate daily schedule and program activities with teaching assistants and/or classroom student volunteers
- Provide responsive care and supervision to all children by adapting daily care giving routines and plans to the interests and needs of the individual child and the group.
- Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for the child's background by incorporating the cultural, linguistic and familial values and beliefs into the childcare program and lesson plans.
- Assist with improving the classroom environment and playground to create opportunities to meet the needs of the developing child
- Model appropriate practices in all program components for staff, students, parents, and children.
- Responsible for mentoring and coaching student teachers who are assigned to our program for cooperative learning and internships.
- Provide Feedback on performance both orally and written for student teachers as requested
- Maintain accurate records for children and families enrolled in the center including attendance , anecdotal notes, assessment profiles, and other program documents as assigned
- Schedule and conduct parent conferences to discuss children's developmental progress, needs, and interests at least twice annually.
- Reports any symptoms of illnesses and/or child abuse to the Coordinator.
- Perform daily health checks regarding hygiene, safety, and overall well- being of each child.
- Assures a healthy, safe, clean and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
- Assist with nutrition component and food service.
- Establish and maintain ongoing, open communication with parents and teaching assistants.
- Encourage and support parent participation in literacy activities.
- In accordance with our philosophy, may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed on this job description.
