    ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN

    APPRENTICE

    Location:
    Delaware Memorial Bridge, New Castle, DE

    $30.85 per hour ($64,188 annualized)

    I. POSITION SUMMARY
    The Electronic Systems Technician Apprentice will service and support the electronic systems and
    equipment of the Delaware River and Bay Authority (Authority). Employees in this classification
    assist the Electronics Systems Technicians (EST) install, program, and service equipment and
    equipment peripherals in the Authority's electronic systems. An Electronic Systems Apprentice will
    follow the direction from the EST assigned to train him/her and will receive leadership, guidance,
    instruction, and assistance from these individuals as well as the Electronic Systems Managers and
    the Director of Technical Operations. Servicing and supporting the Authority's electronic systems
    and equipment will require travel to other facilities as needed to support Authority operations. The
    work assigned may be performed internal or external to any Authority building or structure and at
    great heights. These tasks may be performed over roadways, over waterways, on towers and on, in
    or under bridges. Employees in this classification are considered essential, non-exempt employees
    and are subject to call twenty-four (24) hours a day, as may be required to maintain continuous
    operation of the equipment and systems at the Delaware River and Bay Authority. Personnel within
    this classification receive supervision from the Electronics Systems Managers and/or the Director
    of Technical Operations.

    II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Works on assignments applying acquired technical skills and knowledge
    • Documents service activities and generate reports using a combination of verbal and written
    communication skills

    • Completes all work assignments in accordance with established procedures, policies, and local,
    state/federal codes and regulations

    • Maintains a detailed knowledge of appropriate and/or established safety requirements,
    procedures and precautions for all assigned duties, exercises and monitors safety requirements,
    procedures and precautions for the prevention of damage to Authority property and personal
    injury to themselves, co-workers and the public

    • Provides highest level of customer service to everyone by responding in a courteous and
    efficient manner

    • Services, installs and verifies operational readiness of equipment and/or cabling in the

    following Authority systems:
    o Toll and Fare Collection Systems
    o Traffic Management System
    o Life Safety Systems
    o Public Address Systems
    o RF, Voice and Data Communication Systems


    • Operates and/or uses the following in the performance of their assignments: o Multi meters, oscilloscopes and soldering/desoldering stations
    o Basic and advanced RF service equipment
    o Computers, their peripherals and LAN cable certification equipment
    o System specific operational, diagnostic and reporting software
    o Technical manuals, schematics and drawings

    o Power and manual hand tools

    III. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Detailed knowledge of analog and digital electronics and fault isolation techniques
    • Detailed knowledge of proper test equipment operating procedures
    • Detailed knowledge of electronic/electrical safety and soldering techniques
    • Detailed knowledge of body mechanics and ergonomics
    • Detailed knowledge of and the ability to use office application software and office
    equipment

    • Ability to read, comprehend, and use schematics during fault identification/isolation
    • Ability to make independent decisions
    • Ability to climb stairs, consisting of at least ten (10) steps, more than twenty-(20) time per
    scheduled work day

    • Ability to reach or place items at ankle level, waist level, or above the head without
    assistance

    • Ability to work from heights exceeding sixty (60) feet above the ground
    • Ability to lift thirty-five (35) pound loads without assistance
    • Ability to work within limited, restricted, and/or confined areas
    • Ability to climb vertical ladders exceeding fifty (50) feet in height
    IV. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Associate Degree in Electronics, Computer Science/Information, Engineering, or other
    related field from an accredited college or a minimum of two years technical service
    experience in one or more of the following areas: general electronics, telephone KSU/PBX
    systems, life safety systems, security or radio communications

    • Successful completion of formal courses in telecommunications, RF communications and
    microprocessors based equipment or other courses related to systems listed under Essential
    Duties and Responsibilities is preferred

    V. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATES

    • Valid driver's license
    • Applicants shall obtain the ISCET International Society of Certified Electronics Associate
    Level Technicians Certification within twenty-four (24) months of their date of hire

    VI. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Subject to drug test, background investigation, and pre-employment physical
    • Delaware River and Bay Authority requires all employees to have direct deposit with a
    financial institution or enroll in the payroll card program to receive their bi-weekly pay

    • Applicants/employees holding a valid Commercial Driver's License will be subject to drug
    testing in accordance with Federal and/or State regulations

    • Applicants must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be
    required in order to maintain continuous operation of the facility

    • Applicants must be willing to attend technical schools, training and/or courses of instruction
    within the Delaware River and Bay Authority's facilities or at other designated training
    facilities
