- Performs a variety of functions, including but not limited to instrument processing; inventory, supply, and distribution; equipment collection and delivery; cleaning and sterilization functions in Sterile Processing and OR Core or department as assigned.
- Performs duties in accordance with Body Substance Isolation, established departmental policies, procedures and accepted techniques.
- Operates all sterilizers, computers, printers, all washers, copier, fax, steam and air gun.
- Subjected to heat while wearing protective uniform and working in decontam.
- Subjected to noise/vibration from sterilizers and equipment.
- Exposed to hazardous materials and chemicals. Minimal exposure to fumes and gases.
- Exposed to extreme heat and cold may become hot while wearing protective equipment.
- Works with operating equipment.
- Work environment may be mentally and emotionally stressful.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Post secondary coursework in science, such as biology, and mathematics highly preferred.
- Current Central Service certification highly preferred and may be required within two (2) years of employment.
- Two (2) years experience in central distribution, sterile processing or materials management.
- Experience in cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments preferred.
- Knowledge of automated systems preferred.
