Independent Public School - North Metropolitan Education Region Dayton Primary School Teacher - Early Childhood Education Teacher, $78,397 - $113,568 per annum (SEA GA 2021)

    Advertised Vacancy Number: IPS/TCH855370

This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2024

Teachers at Dayton Primary School (PS) are committed to our vision of building a 'school of excellence' and endeavour to create opportunities for every child to be successful, by providing a foundation that opens the doors to a brighter future. The successful applicant will ideally ensure that student success, engagement and well-being sit at the heart of everything they do. They will prioritise developing positive relationships to ensure a genuine sense of belonging and trust, and uphold high expectations for both themselves and their students.

Teachers at Dayton PS value personal excellence, respect diversity, and promote an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment. Successful teaching and learning at Dayton is underpinned by effective evidence-based instruction and trauma-informed practices, and this is matched with whole-school alignment of pedagogy, programs, policy and processes. To build a connected community at Dayton, teachers prioritise connection and communication with families as partners in their child's learning. The successful applicant will ideally be committed to working as part of our dynamic and collaborative team and will welcome ongoing professional learning and instructional coaching to ensure the success of all through a focus on life-long learning.

Classrooms at Dayton PS are appealing and welcoming, promoting a positive classroom tone. Clear routines and structures are established, ensuring every student knows what is expected of them. Regular assessment and evaluation, through checking for understanding and quality feedback, ensures data-driven decisions are made to progress student learning via authentic and rich learning tasks which allow students to deepen their understanding of mastered skills.

Along with high impact teaching strategies, the Science of Reading shapes literacy instruction and our students engage in structured literacy blocks each morning. To support learning, daily reviews built around concepts of the Cognitive Load Theory are utilised. Digital technologies and STEM learning are embedded within key learning areas to promote learning, rather than being an 'add-on'. Differentiation and enrichment ensure every child has access to work at their level and the best opportunities to be successful.

In the early years, phonics and phonemic awareness instruction supports our students in becoming successful readers and students engage in rich whole class shared reading sessions focused on building their knowledge to assist them in reading for understanding. Writing instruction is underpinned by knowledge from The Writing Revolution, where the focus is on writing effective sentences before applying them to creating various texts. Whole school programs such as Promoting Literacy Development (PLD), Heggerty Phonemic Awareness, Think Mentals, PRIME Mathematics and Spelling Mastery are utilised across the school to ensure whole-school alignment.

Commencing mid-2024, Dayton PS will be opening a Specialist Learning Program for students with autism spectrum disorder who require additional supports to access mainstream education. As the goal of the program is for these students to access learning by integrating into the mainstream classes, teachers at Dayton require strong classroom management skills, and must have the ability to build positive relationships and to match this with clearly articulated, high expectations, along with the capacity to create consistent routines and classroom structures. In addition, experience and an interest in teaching students who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder is desirable.
