    Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) Promise Academy – a top-performing K-12 charter school within HCZ's cradle-to-career pathway of comprehensive services – seeks a Principal to join our Promise Academy Charter School team

    The Principal will bring a passion for the mission of HCZ Promise Academy: to get all our scholars to and through college. The ideal candidate cares deeply about children, respects the culture of Harlem's residents, and is eager to make an impact in Harlem and beyond.

    The Principal will serve as the instructional leader, responsible for managing policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the school. The Principal is responsible for ensuring both teaching and administrative staff are properly advised in curriculum development, use of materials and equipment, and implementation of state and federal programs and procedures to foster a productive learning environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the mission of HCZ Promise Academy, a demonstrated track record of success moving students and using data to inform the big picture, and an understanding and respect for the families and community of Central Harlem. This role serves as a member of HCZ's senior leadership team and reports to the Deputy Superintendent of Promise Academy Charter Schools.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master's degree with 5 years of experience is required; must have at least 3 years of experience in an administrative/leadership capacity
    Must have a valid New York State School Building Leader (SBL) or School District Leader (SDL) certification
    Who you are

    Must be able to demonstrate successful teaching experience and/or administrative experience
    Extensive coursework experience in curriculum development
    Excellent oral and written communication skills
    What you'll do

    Serve as the school educational leader who oversees curriculum development and implementation of state and federal programs and procedures
    Establish and promote practices that ensure the school's academic standards are rigorous, transparent, measurable, and aligned with NY State Learning Standards
    Interpret and enforce provisions of state education codes, rules, and regulations of state education boards
    Manage, evaluate, and supervise effective and transparent procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the mission and values of HCZ
    Participate in training programs and conferences dealing with new classroom procedures, instructional materials and equipment, and teaching aides
    Oversee professional development activities
    Monitor the coordination and articulation of the school's curriculum and instruction across and between grade levels
    Work with administrators and teaching staff to develop and implement curriculum and instruction
    Develop effective internal assessment systems and tools
    Consistently review and interpret data related to student performance and achievement
    Design and implement the school schedule
    Observe teachers and meet with them to provide feedback as necessary
    Consult with administrators regarding instructional resources and needs
    Research, evaluate, and improve curricula, instructional methods, and materials for school systems
    Attend teacher meetings, support teachers, and facilitate positive staff dynamics
    Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
    Perform other duties as assigned
