    Position Summary

    CSM Librarians

    CSM Librarians work closely with students inside our libraries, in the classroom, and online to promote student success. Librarians teach a range of face-to-face and online classes. Using both synchronous and asynchronous modes of instructional delivery, our Librarians focus on student engagement through critical thinking, analytical and hands-on approaches. Librarians are expected to be knowledgeable of learning management systems in addition to face-to-face and innovative technology-based instructional delivery approaches.     This is a professional, tenure-track faculty position requiring a Master's Degree in Library Science. The position works independently and collaboratively to develop, deliver and assess instruction. This position also requires knowledge of best practices currently used in the field.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities

    TEACHING DUTIES AND STANDARDS - 50%
    • Works collaboratively with supervisor, other librarians, and faculty to develop, deliver, information literacy instruction
    • Develops Information Literacy instruction in accordance with Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) standards in the classroom, the online environment and through faculty partnerships
    • Extends services through embedded librarianship and support of undergraduate researchers
    • Engages faculty and other teaching staff to integrate information literacy concepts and skills into the curriculum
    • Provides high quality reference and research support on demand by appointment, email, chat, or other venue
    • Prepares online and print research guides to augment instruction and to assist faculty and student researchers
    • Collaborates on the development of a dynamic online service environment to engage users with library collections and services
    • Develops programmatic assessment models that measure the impact of library instruction on student learning
    • Engages students in their learning through active and collaborative learning approaches
    • Demonstrates ability to deliver instruction to diverse student populations, with varied levels of learning and preparation
    • Demonstrates experience providing feedback students can use to improve their performance
    SCHOLARSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICE - 25%
    • Maintains an ongoing program of professional development and participates in profession-specific organizations, workshops, seminars, conferences, and activities
    • Engages regularly in CSM committee work, departmental initiatives, governance, college-wide workgroups/initiatives such as Achieving the Dream work
    ADMINISTRATIVE - 25%
    • Provides guidance to colleagues and CSM library staff to improve delivery of library services
    • Generates reference usage reports to support library planning
    • Stays up to date on college events and policies
    • Supports ongoing evaluation of library research databases and print holdings by providing Director with feedback gathered from interactions with faculty and students
    • Guides the work of library student assistants as needed
    • Opens/closes Library when needed
    Minimum Education and Training
    • Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS) from an accredited Institution of Higher Education; OR currently completing master's degree
    • Experience providing reference and delivering information literacy instruction
    • Ability to teach in face-to-face and virtual formats
    • Experience creating LibGuides or similar research support materials
    • Ability to use word processing, basic internet applications, and basic database navigation
    • Ability to use a learning management system (such as D2L/MyLearning) to support and facilitate instructional delivery
    Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience or coursework in collection development, cataloging, embedded librarianship, and/or supervision
