    50 HourlyJob ShiftDayDescriptionJOB SUMMARYAssist the Production Supervisor in providing work direction to Wares staff and maintaining productivity.

    Perform processor duties (processing donated housewares, books, toys and decorator items for sale) through a sequential process involving sorting, grading, pricing, invoicing and packaging.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIESAssist the Production Supervisor in the following:

    Establish and maintain efficient pace for goods processing; organize the department, ensuring a safe work environment; train new employees in procedures (including safety); train staff in procedure changes; monitor production quality and staff productivity standards, as directed by the supervisor; monitor product sales and direct product accordingly; serve as a resource to processors/handlers with procedures questions; give input, as requested, to the supervisor on employee performance; notify the supervisor of any conduct or performance problems; assist with development and communication of employee work schedules; perform basic supervisor duties in the absence of the supervisor.

    Sort and grade hard sort items by separating into predetermined classifications and into quality level (retail store grade, Outlet grade, or salvage).Grade items good, better, best standards.

    Placing incomplete and/or broken items into containers for Outlet sale or for trash.
    Price items meeting quality standards by grouping items according to value.
    Tag items meeting quality standards by affixing appropriate tags or labels to a group of priced items.
    Pack items by placing items into containers and placing appropriately routing slips or storage labels on containers.
    SECONDARY DUTIESWork with clients who are assigned for vocational services, as requested.
    Perform related duties as assigned.


    QualificationsJOB SPECIFICATIONSEDUCATION REQUIRED:
    High school diploma or equivalent preferred

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
    One year experience as a wares processor, or equivalent

    KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
    Basic math ability. Familiarity with Goodwill Central Coast's mission, general Company policies and procedures (this may be learned on-the-job). Familiarity with computers.


    EQUIPMENT USED:
    Typical hard sort processing equipment; typical office equipment (including computers)

    Ability to communicate in basic oral and written English (depending on location, ability to communicate in basic Spanish may be desirable and/or acceptable).

    Ability to maintain self-control and work in cooperation with co-workers.
    Ability to coordinate eyes/hands/fingers to quickly and safety manipulate and handle items.

    Ability to meet and maintain established production and quality standards, as communicated by the supervisor.
    Ability to demonstrate satisfactory attendance, according to Goodwill Central Coast policy.

    Ability to adhere to safe work practices as documented in Company policies; ability to report safety hazards/accidents promptly to supervisor or safety committee member.


    EMOTIONAL EFFORT:
    The work is routine with occasional periods of high activity/demand requiring little or no overtime to complete the work.
    JOB SETTINGWork is performed in large enclosed warehouse area on an even concrete floor surface. The area is heated and has some natural ventilation. The temperature will fluctuate to some degree depending on location within the department.
    Dust and dirt is controlled by daily cleaning of the work area. Some of the materials handled may be soiled; these are disposed of following established procedures.
    Work is completed independently but in cooperation with whole department. There is no public contact.

    The noise volume is moderately high throughout the day depending on the amount of activity, equipment in operation and radio operation.

    Material handling equipment (forklift, hand truck, movable containers/racks) and trucks may be operated in or near work area.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work place is steady requiring consistently lifting and/or carrying of items up to 10 lbs. with occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.

    Heavier items (26 lbs or more) will be moved either with assistance from another person or by using appropriate material handling equipment.

    Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks.
