    Genesis Technical Staffing is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Piping Designer with Lead experience for a direct opportunity in Birmingham, Alabama.
    Candidates must be proficient in Plant 3D
    This is a core requirement for consideration for this role.
    Primary Responsibilities
    • Utilize department design and drafting standards.
    • Review and understand project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
    • Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly.
    • Develop complex piping designs and drawings from P&IDs, GAs, piping specs, equipment drawings, and other reference documents.
    • Perform field design work to assess current conditions, locate new systems, interface with client personnel, and assist during construction.
    • Perform survey and measurement tasks for existing equipment and piping.
    • Prepare material take-offs from sketches for construction estimates.
    • Plan and manage site design activities for optimal results.
    • Provide on-site support during startup.
    • Prepare man-hour estimates for assigned activities.
    • Provide technical guidance for less experienced designers/drafters.
    • Coordinate work with discipline leads and other team members.
    • Produce mechanical/piping installation specifications with engineering review.
    • Fully understand the skills required to perform all assigned design functions.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
    • Strong knowledge of piping materials and application.
    • Ability to design moderately complex process and utility piping systems.
    • Knowledge of piping supports, restraints, and flexibility analysis (with coordination for complex systems).
    • Understanding good design practices for piping system sizing.
    • Ability to select piping specialty items with engineering support.
    • Experience drafting P&IDs and GAs.
    • Ability to review vendor equipment and instrumentation from a piping perspective.
    • Familiarity with ASTM, ASME, ANSI, and other relevant specifications.
    • Ability to generate accurate installation documents from vendor drawings.
    • Understanding of interdisciplinary workflow and information exchange.
    • Knowledge of schedule and budget constraints for piping deliverables.
    • Ability to estimate task completion and develop cost/schedule inputs.
    • Ability to lead small teams to achieve project commitments.
    Technical Proficiency Requirements
    • Proficient in Plant 3D
    • Proficient in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
    • Working with knowledge of Bluebeam and TruView.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Effective presentation skills.
    • Ability to work in cross?discipline teams and support interoffice execution.
    Ideal Background
    • Education: Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer?Aided Drafting preferred.
    • Certification: Not required.
    • Experience: 4+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/piping drafting and design.
    Physical Requirements
    • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
    • Ability to navigate within a chemical manufacturing environment.
