CNC Laser Programmer
Location: On-Site – Elk Grove Village, IL
Company: Chicago Metal Fabricators
Chicago Metal Fabricators is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Laser Programmer to join our team at our Elk Grove Village facility. This role is responsible for creating, modifying, and optimizing CNC laser programs to support efficient and accurate production. The ideal candidate will have experience interpreting engineering blueprints, understanding laser cutting processes, and collaborating closely with Engineering and Production teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and optimize CNC laser programs from engineering drawings and 3D models
- Interpret and read detailed engineering blueprints and technical drawings
- Prepare and process files in DXF, DWG, and STP formats
- Understand and apply laser cutting machine processes and material requirements
- Work closely with Engineering and the Production Manager to ensure program accuracy and manufacturability
- Support production by troubleshooting programming and process issues
- Maintain organized documentation and revision control
- Communicate effectively using technical terminology with engineering and shop personnel
- Utilize ERP systems for job tracking and documentation (preferred)
Qualifications:
Required
- 2+ years of CNC laser programming experience preferred
Preferred
- Prior laser machine operating and set-up experience
- Experience with ERP systems
- Background in sheet metal fabrication
- Knowledge of material designations and specifications
- Bilingual (Spanish a plus)
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software
- Experience working with DXF, DWG, and STP file types
- Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints
- Understanding of basic laser cutting machine processes
- Strong technical communication skills
- Ability to read and write in English
