Job summary

The Division of Student Affairs advances the educational mission of the university through resources and experiences outside the classroom that prepare our students for lifelong success.

The Assistant Director leads programs that strengthen community and promote wellness for first-generation and low-income (FLI) students. With a strong emphasis on civic engagement and student belonging, this role designs and implements initiatives that foster connection, identity development, and culturally responsive support.

Key responsibilities include coordinating signature events such as the First Year Retreat, Welcome Dinner, First Gen Week, End-of-Year Celebrations, and the Senior Send-Off,

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education.,

Responsibilities

Cultivate a strong sense of belonging among FLI students by designing programming that fosters community cultural affirmation peer support throughout year Promote mental emotional physical well-being thru culturally competent programming Partner with Residential Life Athletics Center Diversity Inclusion embed wellness inclusion into student experience Develop strategies to address stress isolation emerging needs Oversee program budgets allocate grants financial resources support student participation in research internships global experiences Collaborate Gephardt Institute campus partners create opportunities FLI students engage in civic community-based learning Align programming with universities values equity social responsibility help students explore ways lead serve beyond campus Oversee management day-to-day operations resource-based programs ensure services accessible responsive student needs consistently promoted holistic model monitor trends feedback develop flexible student-centered programming meets evolving needs continuously assess impact refine approaches ensure relevance effectiveness alignment institutional goals
