    Job Summary:

    The Nutritionist I is responsible for the determination of WIC eligibility and nutrition risk level according to federal and state policies and company guidelines. Performs assessment and provides education to participants, providing tailored food packages within federal and state guidelines.

    Essential Functions:

    • Responsible for certifying and recertifying participants to the WIC Program according to State agency policy and procedures.
    • Incorporate Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment (VENA) skills, participant-centered counseling, and guided goal-setting techniques.
    • Perform anthropometric measurements and hematological testing following OSHA regulations and state policy.
    • Prepare, deliver, and document nutrition care plans for participants. Ensure chart organization and documentation are completed according to departmental and State procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with requirements for documenting medical/nutritional risk status and all nutrition education services provided in participant files.
    • Conduct high-risk contacts and monitor high-risk participants in accordance with established high-risk care plans.
    • Prescribe and tailor food packages for participants, including formula changes. Order special formulas under the supervision of the Nutrition Education Coordinator when authorized by a provider.
    • Make referrals to health, social service, and other community resources both within and outside of Hamilton Health Center services.
    • Participate in meetings, in-services, trainings, and conferences as assigned by management.
    • Comply with nutrition education, breastfeeding, and outreach objectives; assist coordinators in the development and implementation of related plans.
    • Assist other staff as needed to ensure optimal clinic flow and participant service, including performing certifications and formula changes as directed by management.
    • Attend WIC satellite clinics as assigned and perform all duties necessary to ensure smooth clinic flow and delivery of benefits.
    • Maintain overall security of equipment, supplies, and eWIC cards at the clinic site.
    • Protect participant confidentiality at all times.
    • Communicate needs and issues to the WIC Director, State WIC Agency, or Hamilton Health Center as appropriate.

    Minimum Education/Certifications:

    Bachelor of Science from an accredited four-year institution with emphasis in one of the following: Food and Nutrition, Community Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition Education, Human Nutrition, Nutrition Science, or equivalent.

    Minimum Work Experience:

    Previous experience in a WIC or community nutrition setting preferred. Knowledge of nutrition assessment, anthropometric and hematological measurements, breastfeeding promotion and support methods, and social/human service systems for referral. Customer service experience preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

    Other Requirements:

    Reliable transportation to travel throughout the service area. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
