- License from the State of Michigan to practice as a Registered Nurse required.

- Experience with handicapped children preferred.
- Has demonstrated experience working with age level of students for position
- Has undergone a physical examination, by a licensed physician, that documents capability to perform required duties
- Has an electronic fingerprint clearance from a criminal history record check
- Observes and assesses students on a regular basis to detect health needs
- Administers medication and treatment prescribed by physicians
- Conducts parent conferences and maintains liaison between physicians, parents and staff
- Makes recommendations to primary care physician on health needs of individual students
- Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students requiring nursing intervention
- Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on student health matters
- Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student who has suffered an injury or emergency illness
- Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures
- Implements board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious or emergency illness
- Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools
- Work with Administration to review and update the latest guidance for the standard of care for all medical-legal forms
- Policy and Procedures: Blood Pathogen Exposure Control Plan yearly update. Human bloodborne potential exposure protocol and access to paperwork
- Update and disseminate HIPPA to all school secretaries
- Medication Orders: steps to safe administration, handling of medications that are controlled substances, storage of medications, handling of medication errors, logging of medications, medical provider and parent authorization forms, training requirements for school personnel authorized to administer medications, and delegation of medication administration when needed
- Standardize to current standard of care the Student Treatment in School orders: Seizure Order Form, Asthma Action Plan and all others as needed.
- Review Medicaid Billing Paperwork and update/disseminate as needed
- Train each school secretary or designated medical person without delegation on:
- Trains existing MERT Team in each building for medical emergency response
Trains and delegates nursing care that requires ongoing delegation relationship (CIC Etc)
Care Coordination, assistas schools and families in obtaining medical orders for heatlcare needs in the school.
Develops and maintains protocols and procedures related to Nursing care needs of the student. - Consult as needed and requested for students with healthcare needs, 504's and IEPs
