    An opportunity is available for a self-motivated, detail-oriented team player to fill the position of Environmental Specialist II at the Florida Park Service District 1 Administrative Office. The office is located in St. Andrews State Park in Panama City Beach, Florida.

    Pay:

    Base salary $3,362.58 month/$40,351.04 annual

    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter , F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.

    The position focuses on natural community management, invasive species management and restoration and protection of natural communities. This position is highly focused on coastal species and coastal ecosystem management, e.g. coordinating the district sea turtle, shorebirds, and beach mice programs. Also responsible for review and approval of district research and collection permits. In addition, the position includes some administration, maintenance and visitor services responsibilities. The applicant must possess good communication, administrative and visitor service skills, be able to work indepenedently and as part of a team and collect, record, manage and report natural resource data as well as design and implement natural resource monitoring, mangement, restoration and protection programs. The position will require both office and field work under sometimes difficult field conditons

    Manages, in coordination with state and federal wildlife agencies, the district's exotic and nuisance species control program. Responsible for review and approval of district Research and Collection permits.

    Serves as liaison between parks and mosquito control districts and is responsible for review of arthropod control plans.

    Researches and coordinates information needed to plan for and develop programs for environmental restoration, the protection of listed species, fire management, unit management plans, as well as other natural and cultural resource management activities within District 1.

    Maintains files, plans, develops and implements projects and activities in coordination with park managers and district staff.

    Investigates, submits or reviews funding sources, grant proposals and internships to address identified priority research needs in District 1 in coordination with district staff.

    Attends approved professional meetings and symposia and publishes or presents material from research findings or projects.

    In areas of expertise, serves as liaison with other agencies or park districts and provides assistance to parks and other district staff regarding issues germane to District 1.

    Identifies, evaluates and reports environmental impacts within and outside encroachments to District 1 natural and cultural resources and provides professional guidance for their management.

    Provides information for and contributes to the development of optimum boundaries of park units and prepares assessments for land acquisition.

    Maintains assigned equipment.

    Submits attendance and leave, travel, and other reports and logs required by DEP and DRP.

    Performs other duties as required.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    • The terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences and data collection and analysis principals and procedures.
    SKILL IN:
    • Habitat/natural community assessment and wildlife monitoring/surveys.
    ABILITY TO:
    • Collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific or technical data
    • Prepare technical reports
    • Understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs
    • Deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner
    • Work independently and with others
    • Plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments independently and with others
    • Utilize problem solving techniques.
    • Utilize computer and related data analysis, organizational and ARC GIS mapping software.
    Minimum Qualifications:

    Valid Driver License

    A bachelor's from a college or university in one of the physical or natural sciences, forestry, natural resources, or environmental studies; or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described above, for a total of four years.
