    Job Title: Summer Band Camp Assistant Director

    Reports to: Summer School Administrator

    Location: Proviso East High School

    Compensation: Hourly - $25.00 / Hour

    Description: Proviso Township High Schools District 209 is seeking a Summer Band Camp Assistant Director during Summer of 2024. The Assistant Director will assist students in playing their musical instrument of choice while providing whole group and small group instruction for students with and without musical experience to support their learning. Summer School teachers must commit to attend professional development prior to the beginning of the summer session.

    Summer Band Camp Dates/Times:
    Monday, June 17, 2024 through Wednesday, July 31, 2024
    No school on Wednesday, June 19, 2024; Wednesday, July 3, 2024; and Thursday, July 4, 2024

    Summer Band Camp meets Monday through Thursday. No camp on Fridays.
    Session goes from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
    Director reports from 7:45 am - 1:15 pm

    Instructional Responsibilities:

    •Use instructional methods that improve student achievement

    •Assign and evaluate appropriate student work

    •Involve students in learning

    •Make effective use of entire class period

    •Use appropriate school support and resource materials

    •Convey to students learning goals and the importance of material learned

    •Be clear in explanations and directions

    •Provide continuity in learning activities

    •Challenge students by using appropriate questioning strategies

    •Adjust the teaching pace to assure maximum student understanding

    •Communicate high expectations for student performance

    •Establish a positive and safe learning environment

    •Address different styles of learning by employing a variety of instructional techniques and materials

    •Develop, communicate, and enforce a set of classroom rules, policies, procedures, and expectations which are consistent with school and department policies and with learning outcomes

    •Collaborate with team members to design assessments and be creative and innovative in the use of curricular and instructional materials

    Instructional Planning:
    1. Establish a positive and safe learning environment.
    2. Revise lesson plans as needed.
    3. Plan instructional examples, illustrations, and time for questions into lessons.
    4. Address different styles of learning by employing a variety of instructional techniques and materials.
    5. Be creative and innovative in the use of curricular and instructional materials.
    Subject Matter:
    1. Demonstrate command of subject areas crucial to instructional effectiveness.
    2. Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary instructional research related to the subject area and to the teaching of diverse students.
    3. Remain current in the assigned content area and in the profession.
    4. Demonstrate enthusiasm about subject matter.
    Classroom Management Competencies:
    1. Develop, communicate, and enforce a set of classroom rules, policies, procedures, and expectations which are consistent with school and department policies and with learning outcomes.
    2. Monitor student behavior for compliance with classroom rules.
    3. Reinforce/reward appropriate social and academic behavior.
    4. Respond to behavior problems quickly and appropriately.
    5. Have necessary material and equipment available and ensure their appropriate use and care.
    6. Provide and distribute necessary classroom materials in an orderly and efficient manner.
    7. Interact with students in ways which are respectful and friendly, and which reflect an understanding of cultural differences.
    8. Provide students feedback on their knowledge and skill.
    9. Use effective methods to manage student behavior.
    Professionally Related Competencies:
    1. Perform promptly the responsibilities stipulated in Board of Education policies and administrative procedures
    2. Attend each day of the program. Absences, for any reason, will result in a reduced stipend payment.
    3. Model and enforce classroom and school rules, policies, and procedures
    4. Be punctual in arrival times to the building and to class
    5. Cooperate with other educational personnel
    6. Report promptly student behavior, attendance, and performance to family or guardians and when necessary, refer students to appropriate school personnel; stay in regular communications with parents.
