The Counselor I or II provides substance use disorder counseling and education for patients and their families, as well as case management services. They communicate and work with clinical staff, utilization management, and referral sources.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitates treatment from admission through discharge, including group and individual counseling, family counseling, and treatment planning.
• Documents all services provided within given timeframes.
• Facilitates educational groups as assigned.
• Participates in crisis management and interventions as needed.
• Completes comprehensive assessments of clients' substance abuse history and treatment requirements, preparing individualized developmentally appropriate treatment plans.
• Develops and implements complex treatment and discharge plans for clients with substance use disorder, conducting intensive or comprehensive interventions as necessary.
• Serves as a professional, providing clinical guidance to other counselors as needed. Audits client records to ensure compliance with required documentation and service delivery.
• Provides assessments and guidance to resolve complex case problems.
• Develops and presents introductory and continuing education programs on subjects related to the assigned specialty for other counselors or technicians.
• Collaborates with supervisors or other psychiatric, social work, or medical professionals on specific case-related issues to maintain continuity of care and achieve therapeutic goals.
• Creates positive working relationships with local social service agencies, EAP, referral sources, and community organizations.
• Serves on department or site committees to plan and evaluate treatment programs and client services, continuously improving treatment protocols and results.
• Ensures effective operation of the therapeutic treatment milieu, initiating crisis management and conflict resolution interventions, and completing incident reports.

This is a per diem position that works 4 hours on Tuesdays and 4 hours on Thursdays.

Qualifications:

• Minimum: Associate Degree in a Mental Health or Human Service-related field.
• Must have at least 2 years of experience as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor.
