    Description
    Job Description:

    Reporting to the Chair, Department of Biomedical Sciences, this role will function as member of a collaborative teaching team and will develop and deliver a medical curriculum in the anatomical sciences. The anatomical sciences program in the first two years is non-cadaveric and integrated with significant component of clinical imaging, including ultrasound. The third year is composed of materials provided to learners at the bedside. The fourth year provides opportunities for cadaveric dissection experience in electives.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Teaching 50-70%

    • Participate as a member of a collaborative team to teach anatomical sciences across the four years of medical school.
    • Serve as subject matter expert in Anatomy (gross anatomy, developmental anatomy [embryology], microscopic anatomy [histology], and neuroanatomy/neuroscience).
    • Develop and maintain educational materials in the anatomical sciences for medical students.
    • Develop educational materials which support Osteopathic Principles and Practice.

    Administration 5-10%

    • Collaborate with adjunct clinical faculty in the delivery of biomedical education.
    • Serve as subject matter lead in areas of expertise.
    • Participate in interviewing and hiring of faculty.

    Service 5-10%

    • Participate in student interviewing, mentorship, and career counseling.
    • Serve on selected committees at the discretion of the Dean.
    • Participate in and/or develop and deliver professional development for KHSC.
    • Assist the Associate Dean for Pre-Clinical Education and Department Chair in accreditation functions to include document creation, data collection and management, education of faculty on accreditation, and other accreditation-related functions as assigned.
    • Serve with relevant professional organizations as members of committees or boards.
    • Foster a positive culture amongst the students, faculty, and KHSC-KansasCOM staff.

    Research and Scholarly Activity 20-30%

    • Engage in scholarly activity that results in presentations at professional meetings and/or peer-reviewed journals.
    • Promote and mentor student research.
    • Serve as a peer-reviewer and/or editorial board member for conferences and/or journals.
    • Participate in seeking external funding for research activities.

    Perform other related duties, as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    None

    QUALIFICATION(S):

    An academic with a track record of proven effective academic experience in biomedical sciences education (medical school experience preferred).

    • A completed master's degree or progress toward a terminal degree for an Instructor position.
    • A terminal degree (Ph.D., DSc, DO, MD, etc.) from an accredited institution of higher education with appropriate experience for an Assistant Professor (or higher) position
    • Maintain appropriate licensure for practice in health care, if applicable.
    • Good standing with all regulatory and governmental boards and agencies.
    • Experience using innovative teaching methods and proficiency in exam item (COMLEX and/or USMLE) writing.
    • A record of success as an educator.
    • Experience in peer-reviewed publications/national presentations.

    • Excellent service skills relevant to supervisor, peers, direct reports, medical students, other faculty, and staff.
