    Reporting to the Assistant Dean of External Relations, the Senior Director of Alumni Relations serves in a critical leadership role within the External Relations team and is responsible driving overall strategy to increase and strengthen alumni engagement for the USC Marshall School of Business and the Leventhal School of Accounting. The Senior Director will be expected to effectively engage staff, faculty, and volunteers to communicate with, educate, involve and cultivate the support of all Marshall and Leventhal undergraduate and graduate alumni. Current programming targets a variety of segments of the alumni population including young alumni, MBA and MS alumni, undergraduate alumni, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, alumni in various industries, class reunions and more. This position will be responsible for oversight of each of these areas, including deploying resources effectively and tracking metrics to ensure programming meets alumni needs and encourages stronger affinity for the school.

    The Senior Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for managing a team of three full time staff which produces top-notch alumni engagement programming through a wide offering of events, activities and services. The Senior Director and team are responsible for developing the alumni volunteer leadership structure of the Marshall Volunteer Leadership Council, Marshall's domestic (US) alumni boards, regional representatives, and affinity groups. Partnership with USC international alumni clubs has become increasingly important as Marshall seeks to engage our alumni around the world. The Senior Director and team provide mentoring, advice, and counsel to volunteer leaders as they build out their volunteer teams and implement regional programming. The Senior Director and team regularly interface with staff and student leadership across degree programs to ensure alignment of goals for alumni engagement with the school and positive impact on the student experience. This position has fiscal responsibility for multiple programmatic budgets.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Serves as a strategist and leader of alumni engagement. Oversees a variety of programs, events and opportunities to connect alumni to one another, and to USC Marshall and USC Leventhal. Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends strategic change.
    • Identifies, qualifies, cultivates and recruits high-level alumni to serve as active board members, volunteers, student and alumni mentors, speakers and prospective donors.
    • Manages relationships with some of the school's most active and passionate supporters. Ensures that relationships are nurtured and maintained. Serves as ex-officio of the Marshall Volunteer Leadership Council (MVLC), Marshall's primary alumni volunteer leadership board. Ensures all university, school and department policies are adhered to within the management of that board and the events it sponsors.
    • Guides and directs team members charged with identifying, building, nurturing and maintaining effective relationships with external constituencies and serves as a primary or principal advocate for the school to its various publics.
    • Partners with colleagues across the Marshall External Relations team on events and activities that support the school's mission.
    • Identifies opportunities for growth in promoting the USC Marshall brand nationally and internationally. Leverages software tools to assist in identifying growth markets and activate alumni networks.
    • Maintains and analyses large sets of alumni data, tracks alumni data on a variety of metrics and produces annual alumni relations report demonstrating growth and progress in alumni engagement.
    • Fosters strong positive working relationships with internal Marshall and Leventhal partners including academic departments, student services, faculty leaders and senior administration to align alumni involvement with educational programming, mentorship, career support and other initiatives that meet the school's needs.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing priorities and fluctuating workloads
    • Experience in a higher education environment, preferably in the area of business education
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of alumni relations programming and engagement
    • Proficient skills in Salesforce, LinkedIn and social media platforms to engage alumni
    • Knowledge of the Marshall School and University of Southern California Alumni Association and experience interacting and communicating with senior administration and faculty
    • Directly related program management experience
    • Ability to manage sponsored projects and work with the fundraising team to encourage support of the Marshall School

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
    • Minimum Experience: 5 years, Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience
      Minimum Field of Expertise: Major campaign, fundraising, public relations and/or volunteer management experience.

    Salary Range

    The annual base salary range for this position is $121,951.33 – $166, When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
