    Position Summary
    Buyer is responsible for commodities or assignments requiring application of basic purchasing principles, theories and concepts.

    The Buyer ensures timely acquisition of product or service from known sources of supply.


    Additionally, the Buyer will mediate with vendors to resolve issues in the areas of requisition accuracy and completeness, on-time delivery, product quality, or supplier payment.

    Negotiate and settle damage claims, rejects, losses, return of material, over-shipments, cancellations and engineering changes with suppliers.

    The Buyer's efforts shall align with the Strategic Sourcing Leader and/or the Supply Chain Manager.

    This role requires a level of autonomous decision making, aligned with clear delegations of authority and business unit strategy.
    Responsibilities

    Purchases parts, equipment, and materials by preparing requests for quotation and submitting purchase orders to suppliers.

    Participate in supplier negotiations and issue purchase orders and agreements that accurately reflect price, schedule, terms, and conditions.

    Maintains accurate lead times for assigned commodities to meet demand schedules.

    Manage on-hand quantities of materials to avoid stock-outs while maximizing inventory turns.

    Identify and recommend suppliers by investigating potential suppliers, researching parts, equipment, machinery, services, and materials availability.

    Conduct supplier evaluations as to production capability, performance, delivery, cost, quality, service and other key business criteria.

    Evaluate competing bids for standard and non-standard items.

    Research and develop alternate supply sources.

    Lead/participate in continuous improvement efforts.

    Identify material cost out opportunities and implement changes to supply chain to attain those efficiencies.

    Must be able to read and interpret product drawings and specifications to help assure conformance of material to requirements.

    4-year college degree in Supply Chain Management or related discipline.

    2 years experience with supply chain concepts and methodologies, preferably in a purchasing capacity related to a manufacturing environment.


    Posses analytical and technical skills required to understand business practices, business objectives to balance competing demands of cost and supply.

    Intermediate computer skills.

    Experience using ERP or MRP software systems.

    Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with internal and external contacts.

    Must be able to read and interpret product drawings and specifications to help assure conformance of material to requirements.
