This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for driving design excellence, supporting new product development, and ensuring seamless integration between engineering and manufacturing.

A key focus of this role is establishing structured design standards, documentation, and training programs to support consistent product development and knowledge transfer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish standardized mechanical design practices, documentation, and review processes.
  • Review and approve CAD models, engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Ensure all designs meet performance, safety, regulatory, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Partner closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations teams to support DFM/DFA and production readiness.
  • Drive new product introduction (NPI) activities from concept through full-scale production.
  • Manage engineering project timelines, priorities, and resource allocation.
  • Develop and implement structured training programs for engineering staff, including:
  • Design standards and best practices manuals
  • CAD and documentation guidelines
  • Onboarding materials for junior engineers
  • Mentor and develop engineers through performance feedback, coaching, and career planning.
  • Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and design improvements for production issues.
  • Promote a culture of process discipline, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Support capital equipment, tooling, and fixture design initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading or managing engineering teams.
  • Strong background in mechanical design for manufactured products.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, Inventor).
  • Experience creating and maintaining engineering documentation and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working in regulated or high-compliance environments preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in defense, firearms, aerospace, or precision manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, FMEA, and DFM/DFA principles.
  • Experience supporting NPI and product lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality systems.
  • Experience developing technical training and onboarding programs.
